Repurposed Accessories: Camera Case under $2 (for Earphones)

Re-purposing is a great way to save if you don’t need or want to have branded accessories. Often earphone cases carry a premium, but if you don’t need one with a matching logo, a number of other things can also protect earphones, from Altoid tins to Travel Soap boxes. Or if you want more cushioning for your earphones, small camera bags can definitely do the trick, and they often have an extra pocket (eg for ear tips).

Which brings us to this small Amazon-Basics Camera Case currently selling ~ in new condition ~ for under $2 at Amazon.com. You can buy up to three at the sale price. There is only one catch, it’s an Add-On Item, so you have to place an order of over $25 if you want to buy this (or any other Add-On Item). You can reach the $25+ limit with any combination of items shipping from Amazon facitilties (by Amazon actual or fulfilled by Amazon) ~ even if it’s only Add-On items.

Used “Complete Guide to High-End Audio” Book for $4 shipped [2004 edition]

If you are a book completist, the 2004 edition of the “The Complete Guide to High-End Audio” paperback book by Robert Harley is available in Used Condition for $4 (with shipping included) by various sellers through Amazon.

Please note this particular edition of this book was published in April 2004, it was the 3rd edition, and has 640 pages. Since then, there was a 2010 edition and that was followed by the 2015 edition. The newer versions go for a lot more. So the 2004 edition is perhaps more of historical interest or for comparison between different eras.

ZTE Axon PRO Android Phone for $300 (32GB) or $324 (64GB)

Some people prefer dedicated audio players, others prefer to use their smartphones as their portable audio players, some are somewhere in-between. One of the latest Android smartphones to get some audio-cred is the ZTE Axon PRO (the PRO is important, since there is also a ZTE Axon non-PRO model), and two good things happened to it in the last few days: 1) it is getting Android 6.0 and 2) its price is dropping…

… as of the time of writing, the 64GB Version is down to $324, while the 32GB Version goes for $300 in multiple colors. It has 4GB RAM which can keep up with almost all music apps. However, there’s no microSD slot, so consider that if you are deciding between 32GB and 64GB.

This is a factory-unlocked no-contract phone with a US warranty.

2pk of Mudder Stick-On Headphone Hooks for $7

A 2-pack of the Mudder Stick-On Headphone Hooks is currently on sale for $7 by the seller, with the order eligible for Prime shipping benefits because it is fulfilled by Amazon. For that, you get two hooks and two stickers. Check the pictures and the dimensions to see whether you may find these more useful than general-purpose household hooks (eg there is a non-stickable 2-pack at Walgreens stores for $2.xx). There are only four reviews, three 5-stars and one 1-star for these, so perhaps these may be of interest to explorers and reviewers and risk-takers 🙂

Used Mook Headphone Book 2012 (CD journal Mook) for $14+ [ships from Japan]

Headphone magazines are a rarity, but if you are a fan of them, and you can read Japanese or just want to get them for the pictures (ha!), multiple Japanese sellers are offering the Headphone book 2012 (CD journal Mook) with prices starting at $14.41 shipped. All ship from Japan with low cost shipping (as default) so they will take a few weeks to get there unless you upgrade to faster shipping. There are many listings for these currently at Amazon Warehouse Deals. To be clear, this is in Japanese, not English!

As far as I can tell, they made an English-speaking version of these a couple of years ago, but I haven’t found a newer english version yet. I do have the one they published in English, it’s pretty good ~ it is on my bottomless list of things to review in the future 🙂

Is Back: Shure HPACP1 Headphone Carrying Pouch under $4

It is back! The Shure HPACP1 Headphone Carrying Pouch is back in-stock at Amazon, currently going for $3.56 each, with a limit of 30 per customer. There is one small catch however, it is part of the Add-ON Program, so you would need an order of $25+, otherwise the shopping cart won’t let you buy it. This is a very nice drawstring pouch. It won’t protect from impact but can keep dirt and scratches away. It is made for their 240/440/840/550/750 line-up, so headphones with similar dimensions (or smaller) should fit fine.

Start Wedn 10pm ET: Mpow Streambot Bluetooth Audio Receiver Sale

Wednesday has something of potential interest in the schedule of the Gold Box at Amazon. It will start late on Wednesday, at 10pm Eastern (7pm pacific). It will be the Mpow Streambot Box with Bluetooth 4.0 and apt-X and NFC support. It gives you a Bluetooth receiver which you can use any which way you like. The most common use of these is to let existing non-Bluetooth speakers or headphones receive audio over bluetooth. The price before the sale is $25. It averages 4.3 out of 5 based on 90+ customer reviews, and if you are curious about it, it has 30 questions peer-answered over there.

Basically, one way to use it is this: plug this into your existing RCA-input or 3.5mm input speakers. Pair this (“this” being the Mpow Bluetooth critter in this deal) with your smartphone or tablet, play music on your phone/tablet, and hear it through your speakers. If you are planning to pair it with multiple devices, NFC is really handy because you don’t have to worry about various devices “fighting” over the bluetooth connection.
