Hifiman HE-560 V4 Premium open-back over-ear planars for $299

We are posting like the good old days, its our fifth post in a row today, and as fate would have it, it’s another Hifiman sale, the HE-560 V4 Premium (Adorama exclusive) for $300 at Adorama directly or you can buy it by Adorama thru Amazon for the same price…

I’m not familiar with the latest happenings in the world of Hifiman, so do check with your favorite forums, websites and video-sites for details and recommendations.

One name that keeps popping up that happens to be at the same price of $299 is the Sundara open-back over-ear planars (eg Amazon)…

PS: global correction, just in case, if you see “oven back” on this blog, it’s just a typo for “open back” 🙂

PS2: yes, I am working on a new website, “Cooking for Audiophiles” and that’s where the term “oven back” comes from 😉 #FakeNews

Hifiman HE-X4 Planar Open-Back for $99

We have a “delayed gratification” deal alert! The complaint has always been that the options in under $100 open-back over-ear headphones are very few, and few-to-non-existent in planar magnetics.

Well, Massdrop x Hifiman are changing this right now. As part of their 10-year anniversary sale, for a limited time (ends by 4/25/22), they are offering the new condition wired open-back over-ear Hifiman HE-X4 planar-magnetics for $99. As of the time of writing, over 2500 units have been sold per the Massdrop website.

The “delayed gratification” part? Per the listing, this will ship in mid-June 2022. This being late April 2022, that’s almost two months from now. In a world of instant gratification, that’s a near eternity!

But if you can wait…

PS: there’s no mention of warranty in the listing. They accept returns within 30 days of delivery in new/unused condition.

Massdrop 10-Year April Anniversale (17 options)

Party on Wayne! It is April 20! And what a coincidence, Massdrop is having their 10-Year April Anniversale featuring 17 Massdrop-X co-branded headphones, three of which are IEMs and four are gaming headsets.

Of the audiophile over-ears, they have Dan Clark Aeons, Sennheiser HD-XXX options, Hifiman planars, and one each from Focal, BeyerDee and Senor Speakers (aka Mr Speakers)…

The IEMs are Noble, Grell and JVC…

This is a limited time offer…

PS: “anniversale” is a shortcut for “Anniversary Sale” 🙂

Used Hifiman HE-400SE Open Planars for $131

Organic and manufacturer hype trains come and go in the world of audiophoolia, sometimes you get bang for the buck, sometimes you are just getting something to keep up with the Zeoses 😉

If you are planar-curious, but don’t want to drop big money, the new Hifiman HE 400 SE seems to be generating its own hype wave. Its new condition price at various sellers is $150 but if you are fond of paying even less, or helping “cycle” used headphones in the market, as of the time of writing, used prices start at $131 (“Used – Good” condition) at the Amazon website. Look for the USED options on the right-hand side of the desktop website…

If you have trouble locating the USED segment in Amazon’s ever-so-expanding product pages, this particular link automatically opens up popup-style the USED listing…

I haven’t yet jumped on this bandwagon but the price is definitely right on these. Stay tuned because I already have a backlog of headphonalia for blog-reviewing 🙂

PS: if you prefer new condition, you can get it for $150 at Amazon (links above) and at NewEgg (from the Hifiman NewEgg store)

My Oh My! These will ship in early December 2020.

You have an option to add a 3-year Drop warranty with accidental coverage for +$20, US buyers only. Normally I avoid optional $warranties$, but this is Hifiman 🙂 They average 4.4 out of 5 based on 1414 customer reviews over there, but do take a look at the 1-star reviews, thus mayhaps the $20 3-year Drop warranty is not a bad idea?

Hifiman HE-4XX Planars drop to $160

Massdrop is back with more Black Friday 2020 offers, headlined by the new condition Hifiman HE-4XX planar-magnetic open-back over-ear wired headphones going for $160 with free US shipping and free returns. International shipping is discounted but not free (depending on location, situation, COVIDalia, etc)…

Hifiman HE-35X Dynamic Open-Back Over-Ears for $75 w/FS & FR & 1-Year Warranty [MD]

This two-figure deal may have gotten lost in our previous Massdrop sale round-up, so it’s getting its own post to make sure people notice it, we are in the COVID-era after-all, you don’t have to spend 3+ figures on new audio gear 🙂

Hifiman has a reputation of headphones not being as sturdy as most other brands, just check the various forums. With that in mind mayhaps, Massdrop is offering this with free shipping, free returns (no questions asked) and a 1-year warranty. Plus you are only risking $75, not $2,000 🙂

With that out of the way, Massdrop is offering the new condition open-back over-ear Hifiman HE-35X for $75 with free S&H and free returns.

NOTE that this is a dynamic headphone, NOT planar-magnetic!

Hifiman TWS-600 truly wireless down to $79

IF you prefer to try your luck with truly-wireless earphones from headphone companies instead of consumer electronics companies, the new condition Hifiman TWS-600 truly wireless (with bluetooth 5.0 and low latency support) are currently down to $79 at the Amazon website, sold by the Hifiman Amazon store and the Gramophone Amazon store, both fulfilled by Amazon so Prime members get their fast(er) free delivery.

They also promise a range of up to 150 meters in open unobstructed areas (eg open fields), up to 38.5 hours playing time (WITH the charging case). They are IPX-4 rated, and per the product description over there, they “required” 10-20 hours of burn in 🙂

They average 3.8 out of 5 based on 110+ customer reviews and have near half of that in peer-answered questions…

PS: my only experience so far with “truly wireless” are the Jaybird Run TW, so I can’t help much 🙂

Hifiman HE-4XX Planar Open Over-Ears for $145 [MD]

IF you are planar curious but don’t want to break the bank, Massdrop is offering the new condition Hifiman HE-4XX open over-ears for $145 with free US shipping and free US returns with a 1-year manufacturer warranty [since this product is in partnership with Hifiman).

This is an in-stock drop, so it will ship in about a business day after your purchase. Your credit card will be charged about two hours after your purchase.

A 3-year “Warranty and Accidental Coverage” is offered for an additional +$20 for US addresses. Given Hifiman’s reliability woes, this may not be a bad idea. Check the MD comments and your favorite audiophool audiophile forums for more on this…

Used Hifiman RE-400a In-Ears for $22

If you want to try out the Hifiman RE-400 series of earphones but don’t want to pay new condition money or risk too much because of Hifiman’s quality control issues, then one option is the Way of the Used because Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) has the RE-400a in-ears (the “a” for Android buttons) going for $22~ in “Used – Very Good” condition. These are sold by AWD actual, not iffy used marketplace sellers…

Hifiman Eartips for RE400 & 600 for $4 w/free S&H

Hifiman Ananda Open Over-Ear planars for $849

We haven’t turned into a Hifiman blog 🙂 It’s just that when you start price-checking one store or manufacturer, other models tend to come up, and if there are notable price differences and/or offers, then the posts keep on coming…

In this case, the new condition open-back over-ear planar-magnetic Hifiman Ananda headphones are available in new condition for $849 and in “Used – Like New” for $799 by marketplace seller “Hifi Heaven” through Amazon Warehouse Deals.

This ships directly from Hifi Heaven and it is free shipping but not Prime eligible. Hifi Heaven is a B&M A/V store in Wisconsin (think Green Bay Packers) and authorized Hifiman dealers

Here’s a written-on screenshot of the aforementioned offering:

ALTERNATELY, there are plenty of used listings of these at Adorama

NOTE: if you are not familiar with the Hifiman Reliability Saga, be sure to check the various audio forums and blogs as they appear to have higher than average breakage rate, so keep that in mind if making a purchase…

Pre-order the Hifiman HE-35X for $90 for a limited time [MD]

A new exclusive is coming at Massdrop! A new “fruit” of their co-operation with HiFiman, available for pre-ordering right now [what Massdrop calls “in the works”], it is the open-back over-ear Hifiman HE-35X headphones, a dynamic, an improved driver over the HE-350 per the listing over there. Not everything Hifiman makes is planar after all 🙂

The listing stresses that their durability has been improved, which was a must have given the many problems Hifiman users had experienced ~ as you can see in various forums and blogs and such…

This “in the works” has a special pre-order price. If you place an order before April 19 in 2019, you will pay $90 instead of the headphone’s regular price of $120. There is also a limit of 750 units available for this run, so the offer ends when they run out or when the deadline arrives – whichever happens first.

Being an “X” product, it comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Note the shipping date however, late August 2019 that’s four months from blog-post date!

Hifiman HE-560 V2 Planars for $250 [or $166 Used]

It’s doorbuster time at Adorama! For a limited time, they are offering the planar magnetic open-back over-ear Hifiman HE-560 V2 headphones for $250 with free shipping… Note that these are the V2, not the first generation… Or you can go used for $166 in “Fair” condition…

New at Massdrop (Thursday 9am ET): Hifiman Edition XX Open planars for $600

UPDATE: the shipping estimate has been revealed, it is the end of May 2019, that’s almost seven months from now, so patience is a virtue even for the patient ^_^

Massdrop strikes again! The date of interest this time is Thursday November 1st at 9am eastern! At that very point in time, after the Halloween festivities are over, they will launch a brand new custom co-brand headphone, the Hifiman Edition XX, an open-back planar-magnetic over-ear headphone. The verbiage at Massdrop says that at 20 ohm, an amplifier is not required, it can be driven from a laptop or portable media player. But what about the Sandisk Clip Plus? 🙂

The price is revealed in the listing, it will be $600 with free US shipping and subsidized international shipping. It will come with a 1-year manufacturer warranty which makes sense since it is a Hifiman x Massdrop co-operation.

The big unknown that will be revealed tomorrow is the shipping estimate. This is a new product, so I’m guessing don’t expect it to arrive in 2018 🙂

Hifiman Mega Mini DAP for $60 [MD]

It’s DAP time now at Massdrop. Hifiman makes digital audio players as well, and their new condition MegaMini player is currently on offer at Massdrop for $60 with orders shipped by Massdrop in late November 2018. Music is stored on a microSD card, and this DAP supports capacities up to 256GB. A manual and a cable are the other things included in the box [in addition to the player [obviously] and the packaging materials].

The “drop” (aka offer in Massdrop speak) runs for the next five days and change {from blog-posting date}.

Hifiman HE-560 V3 Planar Over-Ears for $299

The new condition Hifiman HE-560 Planar Magnetic open-back over-ear headphones are on sale again for $350 with free shipping at Adorama for a limited time. No coupon, no rebate, just add to cart and proceed to checkout…

Note however that Hifiman has above average quality control issues with some of their headphones, so if you are not familiar, check the various audio/headphone forums. In other words, you are more likely to have to return or deal with manufacturer warranty. If that’s something you hate with a passion, you may want to resist the sale temptation…

Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350 returns for $100

The new condition Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350 is back again as an “in-stock drop” at Massdrop.com for $100 with free USA shipping. They come with a 1-year warranty since they are a Hifiman x Massdrop partnership. These are open-back over-ear dynamic headphones, not planar-magnetic.

You can see them all at our Massdrop In-Stock Drops Tracker
