Sennheiser (Non-Bluetooth Wireless) RS175 for $200, RS135 for $100

If you are interested in non-bluetooth wireless headphones, the ones with the receiver base, a couple of the latest Sennheiser models are on sale at B&H Photo, namely the RS-135 RF (replaced the good old RS-120) going for $100, while the RS-175 goes for $200…

These newer models are not using the Kleer technology, while the previous models did…

Used Naxa NE-922A 5 in 1 RF Wireless System for $4.23

If you are looking for a basic AA and AAA powered RF-wireless headphone system that is low in volume, $4.23 is all it takes to get the Naxa NE-922A 5 in 1 RF wireless system in “Used – Very Good” condition” through Amazon Warehouse Deals with free shipping for Prime members.

These are sold under various brands. I have a different brand of this. The base is powered by two AA batteries, and the headset by two AAA batteries. Rechargeables work well in both. Volume is on the low side and it is a basic RF communication system. It has its audio issues but it is definitely utilitarian if you want something that just barely works. It’s audio (with all of its issues) is less annoying than the constant clicking of the $100 Sony RF-995.

Fry’s Black Friday doorbuster is Sennheiser RS-135 RF for $49 (after promo code)

Fry’s revealed their chaotic Black Friday Ad and I went through them and integrated them into our BF Ads Summary post. Most of their offers require “Promo Codes”. You get those in emails by signing up to their emailing list. They have their own way of doing things 🙂

The big doorbuster headphone-wise is the Sennheiser RS 135 RF set that will go for $49 AFTER you use your promo code from the email of that day. The offer will run on Black Friday only, and you can buy only one, either online or at their B&M store.

The teaser (seen above) in the Ad page does not mention the model name, but when you click on the link or search for the product number 8772561, it takes to the page of the Sennheiser RS 135.

Free Sennheiser HD 4.20s Over-Ears with purchase of Flex 500 Digital Wireless System for $200 total

It’s a Sennheiser Combo Value Meal! For a limited time, if you purchase the Sennheiser Flex 5000 Digital Wireless Headphone system for its current price of $200, you can get the closed-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 4.20s (don’t smoke them!) for FREE!

To get the freebies, you must have both of them in the shopping cart, and both must be sold and shipped by Amazon actual (not marketplace sellers) and in new condition. Add one of each in the shipping cart:

+ Sennheiser Flex 5000 Digital Wireless Headphone

+ Sennheiser HD 4.20s Over-Ears, closed-back
+ oops, almost forgot, we have a text and pictures unboxing here of the HD 4.20s headphones (no annoying audio/video)
+ so mayhaps there is a method to this bundling madness, because the HD 4.20s’s best feature is perhaps the earpads, comfort for long TV viewing/listening sessions

Then proceed to checkout, and at the top right corner of the Checkout page, the current price of the HD 4.20s will be automatically discounted. there’s no coupon code to enter. If you don’t see the discount, it means the promotion expired or something else is wrong. You must see the discount, otherwise you won’t get the discount!

Here’s a screenshot of how it should look:

What the Frell is the Sennheiser Flex 500?

The Sennheiser HD 4.20s is part of the Sennheiser HD 4*.* series, a known entity. But what exactly is this $200 Flex 500 digital wireless headphone thing?

This is based on the product description, I haven’t seen this: it is a more stylish wireless audio system, that is not using Bluetooth, so it is an RF wireless. It has digital optical and analog inputs. The receiver has a built-in rechargeable battery. The transmitter is more stylish than the usual pucks and headphone stand style transmitters of old. It looks more like a stylized doorstop 🙂

You can use any headphones with it, it has a 3.5mm audio port. Included in the package are the MX 475 earbuds [check their product page]. These come standard inside the Flex 500 box.

Since the Flex 500 can take any 3.5mm headphones, the limited Sennheiser promotion is giving the HD 4.20s closed over-ears for FREE since some people may prefer full-size headphones instead of earbuds. You have to manually add the HD 4.20s in the shopping cart to get them for FREE. The MX 475 earbuds come sealed in the Flex 500 package – you don’t have to do anything to get these (other than buy the Flex 500 item).

Note that the Flex 500 is targeting TV viewers. If you are interested in using this for music listening, there are trade-offs to consider versus other wireless audio options, and some of that may depend on exactly where you are planning to use it (RF interference, etc).

Sennheiser HDR 160 Headphones for $49 [limit 3]

Please note this headphone cannot work stand-alone! It is part of the RS 160 wireless system. You need to have a transmitter/base for them too play music. The reason they are sold individually is because you can pair more than one headphone to a transmitter/base, so multiple people can listen to them, or you can continue listening when one pair runs out of battery.

With that out of the way, the new condition Sennheiser HDR 160 Headphones are on sale for $49 with free shipping and a limit of up to three pairs per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual. These average 4 out of 5 based on 100+ customer reviews and they have almost 40 questions answered.

These are part of the previous generation of Sennheiser RS-wireless models and they use KLEER technology. The headphones are powered by two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Sennheiser RS 160 RF Wireless (KLEER) for $100

If you prefer the previous generation of the Sennheiser RS-series RF-wireless headphones, the ones with Kleer technology on the upper tiers, the new condition Sennheiser RS 160 RF Wireless closed-back over-ear headphones, with KLEER technology, are on sale for $100 with free shipping at Groupon Goods.

PS: speaking of AmazonBasics, they have a 6.5 ft Coiled 3.5mm audio cable for $3.74 each. You can buy as many as you like. It averages 4 out of 5 on 900+ customer reviews. This is just a cable, no mic/remote.

AmazonBasics Over-Ear Wireless RF Headphones for $22

As part of the Pre Prime Day Festivities, Amazon is discounting a variety of its own brand products, including the new condition AmazonBasics Over-Ear Wireless RF Headphones for $22 [WAS $24] with a limit of up to three units per customer. You get the headset and the transmitter/base. This is good old RF radio signals, not bluetooth. They average 3.5 out of 5 based on over 400 customer reviews, and have 120 questions answered.

Needless to say, these are more of utilitarian use (TV, movies, YouTube, audiobooks), not critical music listening.

Used Sennheiser RS120 Wireless (RF) for $25

We have further downward moment on the “Used – Very Good” condition of the Sennheiser RS120 RF Wireless headphones (with transmitted base included), they are going for $25 at Amazon Warehouse Deals. There are still multiple listings, so other things equal, there’s still a possibility for further discounting.

PS: you can only use the headphones with the transmitter case. The headphones/headset of this kit does not have a 3.5mm input. The audio input is on the included transmitter base.

PS2: given prices, if you only need an additional headset, it may still be cheaper to buy this kit instead of buying the headset on its own.

Sennheiser RS 135 Wireless Headphone System for $99

If you are looking for RF Wireless headphones (eg for TV/movie viewing since they don’t have the bluetooth lag), the new condition Sennheiser RS 135 Wireless Headphone System is on sale for $99 with free shipping by Southern California based retailer “Video & Audio Center” (VAC) through Amazon.com. This ships directly from VAC, however, if you are a Prime member, you will receive Prime-like delivery speed.

As of the time of writing, they have eight units available. This is part of the newer “ending in 5” line of RF-wireless headphones that moved away from Kleer technology.

Used Sennheiser RS120 Wireless (RF) for $29

The Sennheiser RS120 Wireless (RF) headphones are available in “Used – Very Good” condition for $29~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. There are multiple listings of this, so there’s always the possibility of price pressure dropping the price further down.

These are RF wireless (not bluetooth). You get the transmitter base and a headset. The headset can only be used with the transmitter base, it does not have a 3.5mm input. They average 4.1 out of 5 based on over 13,500 customer reviews. A couple of issues of these are a quick disconnect on silence in the audio and wonky AC adapter connection to the tranmitter base.

Used Sennheiser HDR-40 Wireless Headset with T-40 Charging Base for $28 shipped (Missing Proprietary Cable)

If of all the Sennheiser wireless headphones through time and space it is the HDR-40 Wireless Headset with T-40 Charging Base the one you want, you can get it in “Used – Excellent Minus” condition for $21 plus shipping (around $7 it seems) at Adorama directly or by Adorama on eBay where they have “Best Offer” enabled, so you may be able to get it for less. The shipping fees vary slightly between their website and eBay because of different shipping algorithms.

IMPORTANT: these listings are MISSING its proprietary 3.5mm audio cable, so don’t buy unless you already have a compatible cable or you know where to find it.

Used Sennheiser RS120 Wireless (RF) for $35

The Sennheiser RS120 wireless (RF) headphone system (one base/transmitter and one headset) goes for $52 in new condition, but if you want to save some more, it goes for around $35 in “Used – Good” condition by Amazon Warehouse Deals. The headset can only be used with the included transmitter. You cannot use them like normal headphones with a 3.5mm input. This model does not use Kleer technology.

New release: AmazonBasics RF Wireless (2.4 GHz) Over-Ears with RCA input

The AmazonBasics headphone line-up grew even more with a new over-ear RF Wireless (non-bluetooth, 2.4 GHz) model, with a very self-descriptive name, the AmazonBasics Over-Ear Wireless RF Headphones with Charging Dock, going for $48, with the usual free shipping terms.

It has a built-in battery in the headphones, with all the connections going into the transmitter base which also serves as a charger for the headphones. The base/dock is not a headphone stand, it’s more like those old answering machine bases. So far they average 4.4 out of 5 based on 38 customer reviews. The pictures show two sets of RCA (red/white) jacks, I am not sure what the second one does. One is for audio input for sure.

Sony MDRRF985RK Wireless (RF) for $68

On the RF wireless (not-bluetooth) front, the new condition Sony MDRRF985RK is on sale for $68 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. This averages 4 out of 5 based on nearly 2000 customer reviews.

Note however that Sony revealed a new model at CES 2017, the MDR-RF-995-RK. Not a lot of details on the new one yet.

Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless drop to $198

This drops further down, the new condition Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless are now down to $198 with free shipping by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. Sennheiser RS120 RF Wireless system for $55 [limit 3]

If you are looking for an RF wireless headphone system, the new condition Sennheiser RS 120 is on sale again for $55 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of three per customer. You get the base/transmitter and one headset. The headset only works with the transmitter, you can’t use it a normal headphone. They come with rechargeable battery packs but you can also use your own AA and AAA batteries. A couple of potential issues with these is they are quick to drop the connection on silence, and the power cable connection is not user-friendly. This is good old RF wireless, not Kleer technology which is found on the more expensive model of this line.

Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless Headphone System for $218

Bluetooth has not killed the Radio Frequency star 🙂 The new condition Sennheiser RS 185 RF Wireless Headphone System (headphone + transmitter/stand) is on sale again, going for $218 with free shipping, at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of three units per customer.

This is part of the more recent RS xx5 line-up that is not using the Kleer technology but apparently Sennheiser’s own (or licensed without co-branding) technology. These average 4.2 out of 5 based on 125 customer reviews. This is an open-back system and works up to 100 meters away, the signal is almost as fast as Usain Bolt [not a scientifically accurate statement].

Amazon Warehouse Deals 15% off In-Cart promotion continues – Used Sennheiser RS120 for $37+ [updated]

A new month is here, but the 15% off automatic in-cart discount continues at Amazon Warehouse Deals, featuring over 21,000 items, including 270+ headphones. If you are not familiar with the mechanics of this, check our earlier mini explainer post.

This brings us to the Sennheiser RS120 RF wireless headphone that dropped in price recently, and combined with the 15% off in-cart discount, it is now down to $37~ in “Used – Very Good” condition by Amazon Warehouse Deals.

PRICES UPDATED 11/5/16 late PM: they ran out of “Used – Good”, and the “Used – Very Good” price upticked, that’s why now the lowest eligible price is $37~ after in-cart discount to $31.54 in “Used – Good” condition by and $34.67 in “Used – Very Good” condition.

If an item is eligible, you will see the 15% off discount reflected in the shopping cart, both the right hand side that shows the total, and the individual box for the individual product on the main column, screenshot of that below:

The screenshot below shows the older prices, but you can still use it to locate the in-cart discount confirmations. I put it after the jump so it doesn’t create confusion…

Basic RF Wireless Headphones for $11 w/free S&H

More from eBay, on the strictly utilitarian front, a variation on a theme of the “As Seen On TV” RF-wireless headphones are on sale, in new condition, for $11 with free shipping by SJBCable on eBay (99.3%, Los Angeles). Limit five units per buyer. These are not “As Seen On TV” branded but I recognize them very well, they are just sold under a different brand name. These used to be easier to find in-stores but I haven’t seen them as much in recent years, so eBay is an option. The model name when you zoom in on the picture there is MH 2001.

NOTE that these have fairly low volume even at maximum, and they are basic RF wireless technology, so they are subject to the usual trade-offs (interference, lower quality signal, etc), so do not have any audio quality expectations. Consider these as strictly utilitarian (TV, podcasts, YouTube non-music streams, ear warmers). They are powered by two AA batteries (the transmitter base) and two AAA batteries (the headset), so you don’t need to connect them to AC. A big plus if you use rechargeable batteries.

Having said all that, they avoid two of the deal-killer annoyances of more expensive RF-wireless headphones like the Sennheiser RS 120 (quickly drop connection on brief silence, AC power connection design horrid).

Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless drops to $190

The closed-back over-ear Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless headphones have dropped down to $190 with free shipping with a limit of five units per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual where they average 4.4 out of 5 based on nearly 400 customer reviews, and they have almost 200 questions answered by the interweb people. This includes one base/transmitter/stand, and one pair of headphones.

This is NOT bluetooth, and NOT using Kleer technology, but it is RF wireless using Sennheiser’s own technology.

Sennheiser RS120 RF-Wireless for $60

If you are looking for an RS-wireless (non-Kleer) headphone system, the new condition Sennheiser RS120 is on sale for $60 with free shipping at Groupon and Amazon actual (limit 5).

This is comprised of two parts, the transmitter-base and the headset. You can purchase additional headsets and connect them to the same base. The headsets only work with the transmitter you cannot use them via 3.5mm.

Sennheiser RS 120 Wireless (RF) for $60

If you are looking for RF wireless headphones (not bluetooth), the new condition Sennheiser RS120 with a 2-year warranty is on sale for $60 with free shipping and free returns at Groupon Goods. The free returns are handy because there are a couple of potential issues with this, the way the AC input connects to Base is wonky and the audio times-out quickly when there’s silence. The Base has to be connected to AC, while the headphones need two AAA batteries (either the included set or your own). The headphones only work with the Base, you can’t use them as a normal 3.5mm input headphone.

Sennheiser RS120 RF Wireless for $56

The Sennheiser RS120 RF-wireless headphones with transmitter/charging dock are currently going for $56 with free shipping by Focus Camera on eBay with a limit of five units per customer… Coming close, a couple of sellers have it for $60 at amazon.com

The headphones themselves are powered by two AAA batteries and you can use your own, you don’t have to use the included ones. It’s more efficient to charge batteries on your own than use the charging dock, because if you have two or more pairs, you can keep at least one fully charged as a backup. If they run out of juicy mid-movie, you just replace the batteries.
