Archives for October 2019

Wedn: Klipsch earphones: AS-5i for $20, R5 wireless for $50

Woot’s Wednesday October 30 (2019) deals of the day include a duo of Klipsch earphones on sale. In new condition, with a 1-year warranty from Klipsch. Just don’t get caught by r/headphones users wearing them because instant ostracisation is very likely 😉

The two earphones are:

+ AS-5i sport earphones with ear-hooks for $20

+ R5 wireless (bluetooth) neckband earphones for $50

Limit up to ten per customer. Sale ends at 11:59pm central or earlier if sold out…

Tuesday: Razer, B&O H8i, …Bluetooth Cassette

It’s audio day at the Best Buy website for Tuesday October 29 in the year of 2019 as follows:

+ Razer Electra V2 gaming headset (wired, 7.1, compatible with various devices and systems) for $30

+ Bang & Olufsen H8i ANC/bluetooth on-ears for $250

+ Aluratek bluetooth cassette tape adapter for $15
+ a lo-fi paradise, the lo-fi of cassette tape married with the lo-fi of bluetooth 🙂

Tuesday: Westone W60 IEMs for $500

Good until 10/29/19 at 11:59pm ET, B&H Photo is offering the new condition Westone W60 six-driver IEMs for $500 with free US shipping. Per the listing this only ships to the USA. This is one of their daily deals, thus the deadline.

But they also have it available in USED condition starting at $375 and the used price is organic, it is not part of the daily deals (unless somehow the shopping cart AIs adjust used prices based on daily deals as well)…

Friday: Philips SE CL-502 in-ears for $9

On the utilitarian single-figure front, good for Friday 10/25/19, Newegg is offering as part of its daily deals the new condition Philips SE CL-502 basic in-ears for $9 with free US shipping. Up to three per customer at the sale price.

PS: this has one review, a 1-star review, but it appears to be a confused user, as the complaint is that there is no mic/remote. The spartan listing does not promise that, neither the gallery picture of the packaging has any hints of a mic/remote. But it is also possible that the listing may have been edited or had previously been hijacked by marketplace sellers.

Thurday: 128GB iPod Touch (6th Gen) for $225

If you prefer DAPs to PADs, for Thursday October 24 in 2019, one of the deals of the day at the Best Buy website is the new condition sixth generation 128GB iPod Touch [yes, they still exist] going for $225 with free US shipping and/or free pickup in their stores where possible…

It averages 4.7 out of 5 with nearly 1500 customer reviews, so you are not the only one who still likes iPods 🙂

Wedn: Philips SHP-9500 open over-ears for $65

Sometimes cancel culture gets to headphones too but the open-back over-ear Philips SHP-9500 managed to get reborn of smoke and salt, and it is one of the Newegg deals of the day for Wednesday 10/23/19, going for $65 with free US shipping with up to three pairs per customer, sold by Newegg actual, not marketplace sellers…

Note however that before the Great Cancellation this was on sale for as low as $45 or so. But since it came back it managed to hold a higher price thanks to all the forum hype and it getting on many recommendation lists for sub-$100 headphones…

If you are not in a hurry to get it, keep an eye out for the various sellers at Ali Express to see if anyone blinks and discounts it. As of the time of writing, the Newegg daily deal “defeats” the Ali prices…

I didn’t use the original 9500, but I do have a text and pictures unboxing of the SHP-9500S. Their differences are small but a lot has been written about them in the forums 🙂

Budget Prozor Switcher DAC for $11 [with headphone out]

On the budget and utilitarian side of things, if you want a DAC that’s also a switcher and you are interested in converting optical/TOSlink and coaxial audio inputs to RCA and 3.5mm headphone out, for a limited time, Amazon USA is offering for a limited time the new condition Prozor Switcher DAC for the very specific price of $10.83. You can buy as many as you like.

It has two optical and two coaxial inputs with an indicator light next to each input. A switch on the back of the device (where the inputs reside) switches optical to coaxial. The front has three audio outputs, 3.5mm headphone, RCA and optical output too. Power is a DC 5V/1A on the front of the device. Having said all that, “back” and “front” is a relative term for a device like this since there’s no volume knob or other setting that could need frequent adjustment 🙂

It averages 3.8 out of 5 based on 30 ratings and it has ten answered questions. This is the first time I’ve seen this while wondering around Amazonia for budget DAC/amps.

Tuesday: Razer Hammerhead IEMs for $40 to $60 [also lots of storage and memory]

A busy day in the Amazon Gold Box daily deals for Tuesday October 22 in the year of 2019, there’s a big PC Products and Accessories sale that has almost 30 different products. There are two in-ears in this sale, along with lots of storage options for your portable devices but also for your home network and storage!

+ Razer Hammerhead Duo wired in-ears for $40
+ Razer Hammerhead bluetooth sweatproof in-ears (double flange) for $60

+ HyperX Cloud Stinger gaming headset WITH HyperX Amp USB, together forever [or until you separate them yourself] for $60

+ 256GB Sandisk Extreme microSDXC for your DAPs and PADs for $40

+ various external hard drives from 1 to 5TB, along with two NAS options and a “My Cloud” NAS option

+ various computers, monitors and other tech accessories

+ limit two per customer

But WAIT, there’s more! There’s more microSD sales at the daily deals of a couple of other retailers:

+ 256GB Sandisk Ultra PLUS microSDXC for $45 at Best Buy

+ 128GB G-Skill microSDXC for $13 at NewEgg

UPDATE: and among the chaos of the Gold Box deals I forgot about this: one of the Tuesday Best Buy daily deals is the new condition MEE Audio BTR portable bluetooth audio receiver going for $25…

Monday: MEE Audio X10 truly wireless for $40

Good for Monday 10/21/19, one of the Best Buy deals of the day is the new condition MEE Audio X10 truly wireless set of earphones offered for $40 with free shipping and handling. It averages 4.4 out of 5 based on 15 customer reviews over there…

This averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 38 customer reviews at amazon.com where it has not been price-matched as of the time of writing.

On the topic of Monday daily deals, NewEgg is offering the “Feed the PADs and DAPs” Sandisk Ultra 200GB micro SDXC card for $28 with free shipping after entering promo code 93XPC72 in their shopping cart…

Sunday: B&W C5 Series 2 IEMs for $120

Good for Sunday October 20 in 2019, the Best Buy website, as one of their daily deals, is offering the new condition C5 Series 2 IEMs for $120 with free shipping in the USA or free store pickup where this is available and possible… The earphones average 4.3 out of 5 based on 120 customer reviews at Best Buy…

EU: Beyerdynamic Beat Byrd In-Ears for 25 euro

Not sure where Beyerdynamic gets their ideas for the names of their earphones, but their new condition “Beat Byrd” wired in-ears (no mic/remote) are currently on sale for around 25 euro at Amazon Germany, sold by the official Amazon store over there. They average 4.1 out of 5 based on 30 customer reviews.

Wedn (EU): Babiko Truly Wireless (BT 5.0) for 18 euro

To the land of Oktoberfest we go where among the Wednesday Amazon Germany deals of the day we have the new condition bluetooth 5.0 bakibo truly wireless earphones going for the very specific price of 17.59 euro with free shipping in Germany-Austria depending on Prime member status and order total.

Note that this may not ship in some countries because of that darned lithium-ion paranoid restriction. Limit up to four units per customer at the sale price. These average 3.9 out of 5 based on 100+ customer reviews.

V-Moda Crossfade Bluetooth Over-Ears down to $90

One price-check leads to another, and our previous V-Moda post yielded further discounting on the first generation V-Moda Crossfade Wireless (bluetooth closed-back over-ears), in new condition, down to $90 with free US shipping by Amazon actual and you can buy as many as you like. This is an organic price, not a lightning deal, so the price does not have a ticking clock.

These average 4.2 out of 5 with over 820 customer reviews at Amazon. It includes a matching “exoskeleton” case and a few small accessories. Note that the 2nd generation model is already out and there was a revised version of the 2nd generation model as the “Codex”. The one on sale here, the first generation, does not support apt-X. Of the 2nd generation, only the “Rose Gold” color scheme supports apt-X, along with the newer Codex model.

Friday: V-Moda LP2 Gaming Headset for $150

Good until Friday 10/11/19 at 11:59pm [or earlier if it sells out], the Best Buy website is offering, as one of their deals of the day, the new condition V-Moda Crossfade LP2 gaming headset for $150 with free shipping and/or free store pickup [where possible]. Lots of things are included with it, including a detachable BoomPro microphone…

EU fans: Grado Headphones are shipping from Amazon Germany itself

Grado fans in Europe, your time has come! You no longer have to plan a trip to the USA or beg friends and family to bring you one on their way back from the USA. Right now, Amazon Germany itself is offering the new condition Grado SR60e open-back headphones. This is sold and shipped by Amazon Germany ~ in addition to the other listings by marketplace sellers. Amazon’s own price oscillates frequently, their AI price-bots frequently price-match the 109 euro price of the marketplace sellers. Here’s a screenshot of the listing:

Just like the SR60 and 60i before it, the Grado SR60e is an old-school headphone, no microphone, no inline-remote, no bluetooth, no NFC, no nothing. Just a headphone with a cable (with a screw-on 1/4″ adapter) and nothing more, nothing less…

The PORG of course is NOT included. I am simply adding it to some of the blog pictures for entertainment and trolling purposes. Also makes them less appealing for unauthorized reuse 🙂

There is however a trans-atlantic price difference because the standard price at amazon.com is $79. So if you are in the EU, you may also want to look for used options from Amazon.de Warehouse Deals, as those can bring the price closer to the USA new condition price.

Wedn: JBL earphone charging case for $15 after coupon

Wednesday loves headphones it seems because the NewEgg daily deals [now with a more organized website that makes it easier to quickly skim and scan the daily offers] include one headphone item, it is the new condition JBL headphone charging case going for $15 with free US shipping after you enter coupon code 93XPC48 over there. Limit up to three per customer at the sale price.

This is sold and shipped by NewEgg actual. The charging case promises UP TO 16 hours of playtime, and UP TO one hour of playtime with 15 minutes of charge. This of course depends on the individual earphones and such. Picture #1 shows wireless earphones but I’m not sure if they are included or not. This is an earphone-sized case, not a full-size headphone case. You can guestimate the size by looking at the size of the charging cable.

This is the first time I’ve seen this, so I know nothing Jon “Audio” Snow 🙂

Wednesday: Marshall Major II closed wired on-ears for $50

Per the listing, the only included items are the removable 3.5mm cable (with remote/mic) and a user manual. I haven’t seen or touched this model…

Refurbished Schiit Magni 3 head-amp for $95
