Sennheiser launched their new generation of HD 5XX headphones with model numbers ending in 9s, but one of the previous generation, the 8s, still survives at Best Buy, and every few days/weeks it goes on sale, we are talking about the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 558 currently on sale for $60 with free shipping or free store pickup where possible/available.

The Philips SHP-9500S and its predecessor the SHP-9500 generated a lot of hype, much of it deserved, however, as it is often the case with hype, it went out of control, and the echo chamber of gurus and recommendation waves made it even worse. Still for the price, it’s a pretty good value, just don’t expect it to be better than every single open-back headphone out there 🙂
As of a 10/8/17 recheck, the in open box condition for $38 is currently sold out and cannot be ordered.
As of the same recheck, the new condition continues to be available for $50 with free shipping.

More new headphones are now shipping, we are after all in that stage of the season, after we got a boatload of new products during the IFA 2017 announcement season. Speaking of announcements, Google will offciially reveal their Pixels 2 on Wednesday 10/4/17. Hanging in the balance is the fate of the headphone jack for Pixel phones. But let’s not panic too quickly. Apple and Google and HTC have been trying to kill microSD memory cards for many years and they have failed 🙂
Anyway, back to the topic at hand! You can get the earphones that came with the Samsung Galaxy S8 without buying the actual phone. Samsung is now selling them by the bushell, offering volume discounts through Groupon Goods. One pair is $22 plus shipping which is not as good of a deal, but if you buy two pairs (get the 2-pack, not two of the 1-pack), then you pay $35 ($17.50 per pair) with free shipping.
