Fostex the people! (sorry, I can’t resist saying this). The new condition Fostex TR-80 (250 ohm) closed-back over-ear headphones are on sale for $125 with free shipping, sold by “Digital DJ Gear” with the order fulfilled by Amazon, so you get free 2-day Prime shipping if a member. This has a September 13 shipping estimate. Limit one per customer.
If you want something more drive-able, the 80 ohm version, model Fostex TR-80-80 is in-stock for the same price from the same seller, with a limit of five units per customer.
$125 seems to be the magic number because the semi-open TR-90 (80 ohm) go for the same price, but not the 250 ohm version of them.
Also going for $125 is the open TR-70 (80 ohm), but there’s no 250 ohm orderable on the listing.
There are multiple models on the same listing, so if you are reading reviews and questions, make sure they refer to the correct model.
These are dynamic headphones, not planar!
PRO TIP for HEADPHONE MAKERS: if you are going to give your headphones model numbers, and you plan to have different impedance variants per model, make sure the model numbers are not in collision with the impedance numbers!

Pre-order new Beats Studio 3 Wireless Over-Ears
Apple focused on earphones and the Solo line during its short reign as Beats Corporate Overlords, but now the over-ear line is also getting some attention. The new Studio 3 Wireless Over-Ears have been officially revealed at IFA 2017.
As it is the trend these days, these are both Bluetooth and with Active Noise Cancellation, using a built-in battery, and with increased battery life. Even though Apple went Lightning cable on the iPhones, these are conventional headphones with a 3.5mm cable, and microUSB charging.
They are available in four different unibody colors, with a late October release estimate [only an estimate!], and a price of $350. This is also the price of the pre-order price of the new Sony WH-1000X M2 [that’s the second generation of the MDR-1000X ~ Sony rebooted the naming scheme because it expanded the line-up to earphones as well].
Pre-ordering is available at authorized Apple dealers B&H Photo with free expedited shipping (when they become available obviously).

I will do a post Labor Day reckoning of previous posts (I have to find a block of time to do this), and also another Amazon and Warehouse Deals deal fishing expedition, but in the meantime, while price-checking, I run into this, the Apple buttons version, in the Gunmetal Black color scheme of the V-MODA Forza Metallo wired in-ears is available in “Used – Good” condition for $60~ and in “Used – Very Good” condition for $64~ at Amazon Warehouse Deals.
There are two pages of listings for this, so if you don’t need it right away, time may cause the price to drop further down. Only this color/OS combination is this low as the moment.
PS: V-Moda also has a “Wireless” version of these earphones, that’s why I’m distinguishing this by saying “wired”. The wireless costs for more, both new and used.

The OPPO PM-3 planar magnetic continue to be hard to find in new condition at Amazon, but as of the time of writing, the official Oppo Digital store through Amazon has them in-stock in the black color scheme for their regular price of $399 plus $9.50 flat shipping. They are not Prime eligible.
On the other hand, if you are comfortable with used and auctions, another option is to take a deep dive into eBay where you may find active classic auctions or Used offers with “Best Offer” enabled.
“Best Offer” is a way to officially haggle a lower price with the seller using eBay’s official “Best Offer” system.
As usual, pay attention to who the sellers are, as hard to find items can attract eBay profiteers and such.
AKG N40 earphones with $200 Promo Gift Card for $400 [updated]

According to the teasers at NewEgg Flash, starting at 12pm ET on Wednesday 9/6/17, they will have a couple of flash sales on the AKG N40 in-ears and the AKG N60 NC over/on-ears that will get you big promotional gift cards, $200 and $150 respectively.
Now how good of a deal this will be depends on what the actual headphone price will be, which won’t be revealed until the offers go live.
