Headphones are often among the featured items at the eBay Deals, and among them, Pro Audio Star (99.2%, Brooklyn) is offering the new condition AKG K240 II semi-open over-ears for $65 with free shipping with a limit of fifty units per customer. This is the Made In China model.
Archives for August 2016
Friday: Monoprice Desktop DAC/Amp for $79 after coupon
For Friday August 25 in 2016, coupon code 2CRAZY gets you 20% off Monoprice-branded products at the Monoprice site, including their Monoprice Desktop Headphone Amp, Product ID 11567, for $79~ after coupon. Since this is 20% off an item, not a $20 off $100+, you don’t need to add a filler item (its regular price is just under $99).
The coupon is also good for other Monoprice-branded products including their recommendation list participant 8323 Closed-Back Over-Ears with detachable cable. Price before coupon is $16.
[DEAD] Friday’s Offers: Brainwavz Omega, Aluminum Stand, Etc
These two daily deals expired…
[DEAD] Refurbished Sony MDR-Z7 for $320
As of 8/25/16 1:20pm ET re-check, the refurbished option sold out…
If you missed it during the previous sale, it looks like it is back, the manufacturer refurbished closed-back over-ear Sony MDR-Z7 are going for $320 with free shipping by Secondpity through Amazon Warehouse Deals. They ship directly from Secondipity, so they are not prime-eligible.
Pelican 1012 Pick N’ Pluck Foam Set for 1010 Micro-Case for $3.17 [limit 10]
If you have or are planning to buy the Pelican 1010 Micro Cases (currently starting at $9.50 depending on color and seller), we have good news and bad news for the Pelican 1012 Pick N’ Pluck Foam Set (for the Pelican 1010 Micro-Cases or other similar cases). Its price has dropped down to $3.17, in new condition, at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of ten per customer. The bad news is that it is an Add-On item, so your order total must be $25+, otherwise their shopping cart will not let you buy it. You can get to $25+ by getting eight or more of these (based on current prices).
The foam set averages 4.5 out of 5 based on 29 customer reviews. Per the description, the foam is “die-cut into one inch squares”. I will pick one up the next time I place a $25+ order.
Used HIFIMAN HE400S for $228
The Hifiman HE400S planar-magnetics go for $300 in new condition at authorized dealers, but if you prefer used, you can get them in “Used – Very Good” condition by Kraft Audio and Audio Advisor, with the orders fulfilled by Amazon, so they are Prime-eligible. The $200 listing is a high risk purchase, so avoid it.
Wedn: Jabra Rox for $50, Coach for $70
Among the Wednesday Best Buy daily deals there are two Jabra bluetooth earbuds. The Rox model goes for $50 while the Sport Coach goes for $70. They get free 2-day shipping or free store pickup if you prefer.
PS: in recent weeks Best Buy switched to a new benefit where Rewards members (at the entry-level tier, no minimum annual spent prerequisite) get free 2-day shipping on a number of items going for $35+ (but not everything; and only items shipped by Best Buy, not through the various other sellers there).
TFZ Series 1S IEMs for $37 [MD]
The TFZ Series 1S IEMs are currently fully unlocked for $33 plus $4~ flat shipping at members-only Massdrop, with seven days left in the offer and with a late September shipping estimate. Four different colors are available… Alternately you can get them for $40 with free shipping with a September 6-20 delivery estimate by ShenzenAudio through amazon.com. It ships directly from ShenzhenAudio, so it’s not Prime eligible…
AKG K553 Closed Over-Ears for $120 [MD]
More droppings have dropped at the members-only online shipping club that is Massdrop, they are offering the new condition closed-back over-ear AKG K553 for $120 with free shipping with about seven days to go on this offer. It comes with a 2-year warranty from AKG and will ship in mid-September 2016. This is a pre-release exclusive of sorts for MD, as part of their growing relationship with Harman’s AKG.
Samson SR-950 Closed Over-Ears for $30 w/free S&H
Another headphone offer has gone live at NewEgg FLASH (their flash sales, Groupon-competitor type of a website), it is the new condition closed-back over-ear Samson SR-950 headphones going for $30 with free shipping. These are the closed version of the semi-open SR-850. Limit 30 per customer. Sale ends on Monday 8/29/16 or so.
[DEAD] Wednesday’s Offers: Harman Soho, Bluedio, Banana Stands (!), Etc
This round of daily deals expired…
Philips X2/27 Open Over-Ears for $219
The open-back over-ear Philips Fidelio X2 are currently going for $219 with free shipping with a limit of five per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual. Check the various forums and reviews if you are worried about the potential “Gibson issues” after the Woox to Gibson transition.
Speaking of reviews, this is a 10-headphone comparison review including the X2 at Amazon, long enough that a commenter there complained it was “a book” and was promptly shut down by “book readers” with a “0 out of 68” favorability rating on that particular comment.
Sennheiser HD800 S for $1604
The weight of the tears from the removal of the Sennheiser HD800 S from the Innerfidelity Wall of Fame perhaps weighed down its price, now down to $1604 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual.
PS: the tears part is purely dramatization, the discount looks like a computer-generated price-match of a couple of marketplace sellers offering it for the same price.
Used Schiit Valhalla 2 Amp for $311
And now a breezy stroll down Amazon Warehouse Deals, starting with the Schiit Valhalla 2 Headphone Amplifier going for $311 in “Used – Very Good” condition (minor cosmetic imperfections, damaged original packaging) from Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. The new condition price at Amazon is $379, while at Schiit’s website is $349 plus mandatory shipping (unless you can pick up from SoCal).
TEAC UD-301 Balanced DAC/amp for $319
Price-checking is always a good idea, Massdrop (MD) does not always have the lowest prices. Case in point, the TEAC UD-301 Balanced DAC/amp just launched at MD with the lowest possible price under the offer $350 shipped, but it’s handily defeated at the moment by Amazon actual offering it for $319 with free shipping. It is possible that Amazon actual’s price is an automated price-match of the two marketplace sellers offering it for the same price, so I don’t know how long this will last.
Product details and specs at TEAC’s website. Click on the little tabs to see Specs, Images, Downloads, etc. Screenshot below since they are hard to spot while casually looking at that page. I’m not the only one with bad web design skills 🙂
Wooden Omega Headphone Stand for $24
The new condition Wooden Omega Headphone Stand is currently available for $24 by a handful of marketplace sellers with the order fulfilled by Amazon, so they are Prime eligible. The three listings you see for $17 with free shipping ship directly from mainland China and they are fairly new sellers, so that’s a higher risk. You can tell this by looking at the detailed listings. For most China sellers it says so in the detailed listing but not for all of them. For those not mentioning it, the shipping estimate is a dead giveaway, if it’s over a month, it means very show shipping from China.
To cut a long story short, fulfilled by Amazon saves you a lot of potential headaches. Shipment happens from Amazon’s warehouses, and if there’s a problem, you deal with Amazon’s customer service, not the marketplace sellers.
The stand averages 4.3 out of 5 based on 163 customer reviews and has a pretty solid “review intensity ratio”, around 15:1 (the percentage of 5-star reviews vs 1-star reviews).
A tall annotated screenshot with the shipment details marked is after the jump if you are not familiar with the detailed Amazon product listings. NOTE: it may be presented differently depending on what browser you use, what device/OS, size of your viewport (size of browsing window), and whether Amazon’s computers are doing any experiments with how they display listings…
Beyerdynamic DX 120 iE for $35 [MD] or $39 Now
Another earphones is now fully unlocked at the members-only shopping club Massdrop, it is the new condition Beyerdynamic DX 120 iE going for $32 plus $3~ flat shipping with about six days left to go in the offer (from blog posting date), and a mid-September 2016 shipping estimate… If you can’t wait that long, a few marketplace sellers have them for around $39.XX with the orders fulfilled by Amazon (Prime eligible)…
LZ A3 Triple Hybrid IEM for $134 [MD]
With around six days to go (from today’s posting date), the LZ A3 Triple Hybrid IEMs are now fully unlocked for $130 plus $4~ flat shipping. Two color choices are available at checkout, and pictures of everything that’s included are in the listing. They get a 1-year warranty from Massdrop. Shipping estimate is mid-to-late September 2016, so as with most MD offers, patience is a virtue, it’s like the opposite of Google Express and Prime shipping 🙂
[DEAD] Tuesday’s Offers: JBL, Noontec, Monster, Wood earphones, Etc
These daily deals expired…
[DEAD] Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 On-Ears for $80 (iOS or Android)
As of a 8/22/16 1:32pm ET recheck, all three options sold out, and Amazon actual is not currently one of the available sellers (sometimes happens during doorbuster sales when they run out).
[DEAD] Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over-Ears (Ivory Android only) for $150
As of a 8/22/16 1:35pm ET recheck, the price of this increased to $250+ from Amazon actual, so it did not get pulled from the listings like the on-ears…
[DEAD] Monday’s Offers: Senn PX95 Mini, MEE M6, Etc
Monday’s round of offers expired…
OPPO PM-3 Planar Magnetics for $345 to $360
The Oppo PM-3 offer that was teased by NewEgg Flash has now materialized, you can get the new condition OPPO PM-3 planar magnetics for $360 with free shipping by Shenzen Audio (they are the ones offering the Return Policy) through NewEgg FLASH.
But wait, there’s more! If you are willing to pay for this with a VISA card and you have not already used this promotion, coupon code VCOGOLD16 gets you $15 off an order of $200+ until 8/21/16 PM. Details on the VISA Checkout offer.
NewEGG FLASH is a flash sale site, so offers only run for a few days and then expire. This offer is good for the next six days. But many of the offers return every few weeks/months.
Sennheiser HD650 for $300 with coupon (or $285 after MIR)
If you are interested in the open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD650, coupon code 1LENSSAVIN (no G at the end) drops the price down to $300 at Adorama.com (authorized dealer)… If you don’t object to doing a mail-in rebate, there’s also a $15 mail-in rebate offer on it that drops it to $285 after MIR. You have to cup the original UPC code and serial number from the box, make photocopies and snail-mail the rebate form.
PS: the rebate offer ends 8/22/16, the coupon works until it stops working.
PS2: if you want to test whether the coupon is working, you can go to the Checkout page and skip everything to the Payment section. Look for the option there to enter a coupon and enter it in the coupon box (not the gift card box). You don’t have to enter your address and billing info if you just want to test whether the coupon is working.
Sennheiser HD600 for $250 after coupon (or $235 after MIR)
It’s not just the HD 650, coupon code 1LENSSAVIN (no G at the end) gets you the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD600 headphones for $250 from authorized dealer Adorama.com…
Optionally you can submit a $15 mail-in rebate and drop it to $235 after MIR. This is a mail-in rebate, so you have to cut off the barcode and serial number and make photocopies and snail-mail things and wait for the rebate to arrive a few weeks later. The rebate offer ends 8/22/16. The coupon is independent of the rebate.
Alternately, if you are a regular Amazon shopper, you can get the same effective price by buying the HD600 with $150 Amazon Gift Card bundled together for $400. On very rare occasions, the gift card may arrive before the headphones ship, and you may be able to apply it towards this purchase (unless they changed how the shopping cart deals with gift card bundles).
B&O PLAY H6 Over-Ear headphones (2nd Gen) for $280
The black color scheme of the second generation B&O PLAY H6 Over-Ear headphones is on sale, going for $280 instead of its usual price of $300 at Amazon by Amazon actual with a 1-3 weeks shipping estimate.
NOTE: a “Just Launched” seller also has it for the same price, which may have automatically triggered Amazon’s own price to drop as a computer price-match. Make sure you are buying from Amazon actual, not from the marketplace seller.
PS: if you are not familiar with how things look at the Amazon website, this is a screenshot of the part of the product page you should always look at:
Free JBL Coach Bluetooth On-Ears and $50 Gift Card WITH Huawei Honor 8 Dual Unlocked Phone for $400 [PRE-ORDER]

[DEAD] Refurbished AUDEZE EL-8 Open Planars w/1yr warranty for $350
This limited time offer expired… Planar action again, and if you are comfortable with refurbished, you can save some, the AUDEZE EL-8 Open-Back Over-Ear Planar-Magnetics are available in refurbished condition with a 1-year warranty for $350 with free shipping at Adorama.com until 8/23/16 or earlier if they run out.
Fostex TH-900 Mark II for $999
Fostex the people! The Fostex TH-900 Mark II Premium 1.5 Tesla headphones are currently on sale in new condition for $999 with free shipping and handling by Adorama.com until 8/22/16 or earlier if sold out. These are closed-back over-ears.
Logitech UE900S IEMs for $230
And now it’s time for some in-ears, authorized dealer PitBull Audio on eBay (99.7%, California) is offering the new condition Logitech UE900S IEMs for $230 with free shipping. They ship with USPS Priority Mail per the listing. That’s one advantage of IEMs, they are lightweight enough even for First Class Mail but I’m digressing. Limit 12 per customer or they have 12 units total in-stock (most likely the latter).
Sony XB950BT Extra Bass Bluetooths for $98
At the intersection of bassheads and techies, one of the headphones one may find are the closed-back Sony XB950BT over-ears. The “Extra Bass” in their name makes certain classical music fans don’t buy them accidentally 😉 They have Bluetooth with NFC but no ANC. NFC is handy if you are planning to frequently switch between different bluetooth sources (eg two phones) and don’t want to deal with the soap opera of different bluetooth devices “fighting” for an active connection.
All that brings us to these headphones being on sale for $98 with free shipping, in your choice of black, red or blue, at authorized dealers Abt Electronics and BuyDig on eBay (limit 5; over 400 units sold).
These are popular, if customer reviews and questions are an indicator, they have over 1000 of the former and over 600 answered of the latter at amazon.com with an average of 4.3 out of 5 and a decent “review intensity ratio”. That’s the 5-stars vs the 1-stars, it’s about a 10:1 (69% of reviews versus 7% of reviews), which is a good sign.
Sennheiser RS 120 Wireless (RF) for $60
If you are looking for RF wireless headphones (not bluetooth), the new condition Sennheiser RS120 with a 2-year warranty is on sale for $60 with free shipping and free returns at Groupon Goods. The free returns are handy because there are a couple of potential issues with this, the way the AC input connects to Base is wonky and the audio times-out quickly when there’s silence. The Base has to be connected to AC, while the headphones need two AAA batteries (either the included set or your own). The headphones only work with the Base, you can’t use them as a normal 3.5mm input headphone.
