Chromecast Audio for $30

The lowest price of the Chromecast Audio at recognizable sellers was $25, so if you don’t need it right away, you can always wait for future sales. But if you need it right away, you can get it for $30 at the Staples website and their B&M stores (YMMV on availability – you can check on their website). Staples has a variety of ways to get additional discounts, their monthly rewards, various coupons (some may be restricting specific brands, so check terms/conditions), or you can redeem a $25 Staples electronic (or plastic) gift card for $20 with Discover Cashback.

We have a Text and Pictures Unboxing of this right here. The promised review and tips and tricks posts have not materialized yet 🙂 [that’s a nice euphemism when you don’t finish something 🙂 ]

PS: non-headphone sales are rounded-up in a permanent post, the Audio Deals round-up.

[DEAD] Brainwavz Replacement Memory Foam Earpads for Large Over the Ear Headphones for $13.20

This early morning Monday lightning deal expired. Chances of selling more of these would have been higher if they launched it at a time more people (and musicians) were awake 🙂

These two colors were “hidden” behind the Dark Purple in the Lightning Deals listings but now that the offer has gone live, they have been revealed. Good until 12:49pm ET, you can get the Brainwavz Replacement Memory Foam Earpads for Large Over the Ear Headphones for $13.20 in either the Gray Color Scheme or the Yellow Color Scheme. The Dark Purple that was featured in the Gold Box last night goes for $16.

Three pairs of 2-inch earcup covers for $4

Three pairs of 2-inch earcup covers by “Top Stage” are currently going for $4 at Amazon by Amazon actual. Unfortunately they are part of the Add-ON program, so you must place a $25+ order to buy them. You can buy up to 30 sets of these… A marketplace seller offers these for $3.50 shipped, not Prime eligible, so they are not restricted by the Add-On program… They average 4.3 out of5 based on 1300+ customer reviews. Check those and the 75 answered questions to see which headphones fit and don’t fit. Both the reviews and answers have their own search boxes (you have to look for them in their respective pages)… Picture #2 in the main product gallery shows how they are delivered… Needless to say, don’t expect luxury from these 🙂

Pelican 1010 Micro Case, Black with Clear Lid for $9.50

The black color scheme of the Pelican 1010 Micro Case with Clear Lid (of earphone storage interest) is back down under $10 with Amazon actual being the seller of record. The red color scheme goes for a quarter more. These cases average 4.7 out of 5 based on 300+ customer reviews over there… Meanwhile the replacement foam goes for $3, but the foam is an Add-On item (unlike the actual case), so you’d need an order of $25+, elsewise the shopping cart will not let you buy it (even if you are willing to pay shipping out of your own pocket, Prime or not)…

Etymotic Research ER-20 Earplugs for $13

Hearing protection is important for music appreciation, which brings us to the Etymotic Research ER-20 Earplugs offered for $12 plus $1 flat shipping at the members-only Massdrop service. But if you are a Prime member, they are offered for $13 with free shipping (or the usual $49+ for non-members) by Etymotic Research with the orders fulfilled by Amazon. Note that at Amazon multiple options are sharing the same review pool, so you must dig into the review page and filter the reviews for this specific model if you want to read more about it. There is no option to filter the review scores though.

Elagio Strap Cable for Airpods for $8

From the Reinventing the Wheel department, how about this magical new accessory for the new Apple Airpods? Something that makes it harder to lose them, and keeps them connected together like twins. This new development in R&D would not have been made possible without the Airpod innovation. But now it has been unleashed to the general public. And they go for just $8! Imagine that! It’s the Elagio Strap Cable for Airpods 🙂

Here Now With Pictures: Repurposing as Earphone Case: Infinity Power disc holder for $1.45 [used]

As promised on Monday, it has just arrived! I tried a few items and took some quick pictures. It is the Infinity Power disc holder on sale in new condition for $2.50 at Amazon by Amazon actual (free shipping for Prime members) or in “Used – Like New” condition for $1.45 with free shipping for Prime members (or with a $35+) by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Updated 2/26/17…

Things to consider

+ this is not a hard shell case. The ring wiring of the lid up top and at the bottom is solid but the main body is soft. So this will protect from dust and dirt and such and minor impact, but not from hard impact
+ there is no padding inside, other than the material it is made of
+ the zipper has a thick plastic pull tab making it easier to use
+ also has a built-in clasp hook on the back
+ the bottom (on the outside) says Star Wars in big white print

Repurposing as Earphone Case: Disney Infinity Power disc holder for $2.49

I haven’t tried this particular item, I am only going by the pictures and product description, but this could be repurposed as an earphone case (or accessory holder), it is a Disney Infinity Power Disc holder (holds up to 12 discs) with a zipper up top. It is currently on sale for $2.49 each, with free shipping for Prime members (not an Add-On item *fingers crossed*) at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. The product description states “3.1 x 3.1 x 2.5 inches” as dimensions. I don’t know if these are external or internal.

The first of the customer reviews has a couple of pictures that give you a better sense of size/shape.

I just bought one to test it, but it won’t get here until at some point on Wednesday, the sale may be over by then.

PS: you can also get in “Used – Like New” condition for $1.43 with free shipping for Prime members (or with a $49+) by Amazon Warehouse Deals.

[DEAD] Repurposing: Banana Hanger (under the cabinet style) for $6.37

This Sunday lightning deal ended… Partly joke post, partly serious, good until 10:40pm ET tonight, this Banana Hanger (under the cabinet style) is a lightning deal for $6.37 with free shipping for Prime members (or with a $49+ order). Of interest as an earphone or headphone hanger 🙂

[SOLD OUT] BCP Earphone Case with padding for $4

As of 1/29/17 recheck, this is sold out and cannot be ordered at this point in time…

If you like to try out new and/or off-the-radar products, there is a BCP-branded earphone case going for $4, sold by a marketplace seller but fulfilled by Amazon. This is not an Add-On item, so if you are a Prime member, you can get this with free shipping without the need to buy anything else. It comes with removable foam inside. The dimensions are listed over there: 5 x 3 x 1-1/2 inches outside, and 4-5/8 x 2-11/16 x 1-1/4 inches inside. It has no reviews and no questions answered, so this is for the boldly going shoppers.

Phones as DAPs: LG V20 (International Version) for $550

From the Phones as DAP department, if you are interested in the new LG V20 but don’t want to pay the $800+ for the USA edition, and you understand the trade-offs of getting an international model, among the latest ebay daily deals, eBay seller “NeverMSRP” (99.9%, Houston) is offering new condition international versions of the LG V20 (model H990DS) for $550 with free shipping, in either silver or gray. The pink is currently sold out. Limit up to five per customer. This is unlocked, no carrier logos, no contracts, no installment plans. The compatible bands are in the listing, but check phone forums if you are not certain your carrier(s) of interest are compatible. Check audio forums and websites for discussions on the audio capabilities of the V20.

Fiio X1 Armband for $12

The official Fiio armband for the X1 digital audio player is currently going for $12 by various Prime-eligible sellers at amazon.com. This is a product with distinct trade-offs though – it is advertised as a “sports” armband but the reviews say it’s not flexible enough for exercise (muscle contraction/movement), and the X1 is unprotected on the front and sides, so it’s more of an armchair armband 🙂

I don’t have this, but I have the Fiio X1 DAP [see unboxing text/pictures post]. I have yet to finish the X1 DAP review [spoiler alert: not bad for an $80 microSD-based DAP], so buying/reviewing the armband will have to wait 🙂

Until Friday Night: $20/$100+ or $5/$25+ Monoprice coupons

If you are planning another purchase of cables, accessories and such from the Monoprice website, you have until Friday night (1/20/17) to organize an order together, to take advantage of two parallel coupons: GET20 that is a $20 discount of an order total of $100 or more; OR coupon GET5 for $5 discount of an order total of $25 or more. Some exclusions apply. You can test things by adding items and coupons in shopping cart and see what qualifies.

I just tested it again, the M560 planar-magnetics are not eligible for the discount. The other planar model, the M1060 cannot even be ordered yet, and its shipping estimate has slipped further away, the estimate is now late February 2017. For this and other upcoming headphones, stay tuned to the Headphone Tracker.

Repurposed Accessories: Lowepro camera bag (as earphone or DAP case) for $2 with free shipping [updated]

This is a “repurposing deal”. Sometimes those small camera bags can be a great way to store earphones, as long as they fit comfortably inside. This depends on both the earphones, how you store them, and the dimensions of the bag. I don’t have this particular bag, so I can’t give you a first hand account of what fits and what doesn’t. I’ve done this with other small camera bags. You can also use it to store other devices, such as smaller DAPs, or assorted accessories (interconnects, adapters, memory cards, OTG cables, etc).

With that out of the way, the Lowepro Ridge 30 Camera Bag is on sale for $2 with free shipping by Best Buy’s eBay store. Limit five per customer.

Meanwhile the one mentioned in the original post, the Lowepro Geneva 10 camera bag is now going for $3.49 with free shipping by the Ritz Cameras store on eBay. This was $0.99 with free shipping when it was initially posted. There’s no purchase quantity limit per customer, and they sold over 2750 units from this offer so far.
