If you are …sure you are comfortable with lower condition used camera gear, the open-back over-ear Shure SRH1440 is available in “Used – Acceptable” condition (various cosmetic imperfections; damaged original packaging) for $178~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual, with a “Used – Very Good” going for $216.
Used Oppo PM-3 Planars for $391 w/free S&H
If you are a fan of shopping at Amazon and Prime shipping, and used products, I have found a unicorn. An OPPO PM-3 that is actually shipping from an Amazon Warehouse, Prime eligible! It is the white color scheme, in “Used – Like New” condition with damaged original packaging going for $391, sold and shipped by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. The previous link only shows the Prime-eligible listings. Remove the Prime-only checkmark on the left-hand side to see all the listings.
I am not sure where Amazon Warehouse Deals got these, maybe they were a trade-in? To make sure I wasn’t hallucinating when I posted this, I took a screenshot 🙂
Refurbished Sony MDR-100AAP for $100
The closed-back over-ear Sony MDR-100AAP are available in five distinct unicolors. Four of those colors are available in refurbished condition with a 90-day warranty by Secondipity thru Amazon. This listing shows you the lowest price per color.
To see detailed listings, click on the “See all offers for this product” link next to each color. For example, for the black color scheme, these are its detailed listings.
PS: the five colors make it easier to buy these are gifts for kids or siblings or grand kids or roommates or relatives or co-workers. The distinct colors makes it easier for them to tell theirs apart 🙂

[DEAD] Refurbished Sony MDR-1A for $130
As of a late 11/25/16 PM recheck, this sold out at this price. It’s hard for something like this to stay “hidden” on Black Friday 🙂 The closed-back over-ear Sony MDR-1A, in the silver color scheme, is available for $130 with free shipping in manufacturer refurbished condition with a 90-day warranty by Secondipity through Amazon Warehouse Deals. It ships directly from Secondipity (in brown box packaging), and it is not Prime eligible.
Refurbished Yurbuds Ironman for $7 w/free S&H
Clearance-specialist Tanga is offering various options of the Yurbuds Ironman earbuds in refurbished condition (“B Grade” they describe it with a 90 day warranty) for $7 with free shipping.
[DEAD] Used Sennheiser HD 800 for $737 is back [updated]
This ended…
As of a 11/19/16 at 3:55pm ET recheck, this is back on… The Sennheiser HD 800 is not eligible for the 15% off AWD discount, but as of the time of writing, there’s a “Used – Good” condition option available for $737~ with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.
When looking at prices at Amazon, the ones offering it for $1000 in new condition are unknown sellers, and very likely not authorized Sennheiser dealers. So for $1000 headphone, make sure they are authorized AND reputable dealers before you consider buying. Both are important, especially for a big purchase. It’s one thing to risk on a $50 item, and quite another to take a $1000 risk.
As a 11/18/16 at 11:12pm ET recheck, the used $737 option is no longer available…
Used Sennheiser HD 700 for $274
The previously mentioned 15% off Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) promotion continues, and with that factored in, you can get the Sennheiser HD 700 for $274~ in “Used – Good” condition by AWD actual. This particular listing is described as having cosmetic imperfections, and having damaged original packaging, and missing “power cord” which I’m assuming means it’s missing a cable.
The decision as to whether to get this over the other Sennheiser (or other brand) options is complex, now that the HD 6xx entered the arena as a hard to get moving target at $200.
[DEAD] Refurbished closed Audeze EL-8 planars w/1yr warranty for $350
This limited time sale ended but it is recurring every few weeks/months (YMMV)… Manufacturer-refurbished products are the lowest risk of the non-new products, so if you are not totally risk-averse, you can save some by going the manufacturer refurbished route for the closed-back over-ear planar-magnetic Audeze EL-8 headphones. You can get them for $350 with free shipping for a limited time at authorized dealer Adorama.com with a one year Audeze warranty.
Hifiman HE-1000 Planar flagship down to $2400
The Hifiman HE-1000 flagship planar magnetic headphones typically go for $3000 as default price at authorized dealers, but these too are participating in the Hifiman-blessed Black Friday sales, you can get them for $2400 with free shipping by various authorized marketplace sellers, most of them Prime-eligible, through Amazon.
On the other hand, 20% off too much is still too much (think “20% off infinity”), so if you are more comfortable with used, you can get them in “Used – Like New” condition from authorized dealer Hi-Fi Heaven for $1565 through Amazon Warehouse Deals (this particular listing is not Prime eligible).
Used Sennheiser HD 461i for $38
The new condition closed-back Sennheier HD 461i (i = Apple devices remote) goes for $60+ in new condition, but if you are comfortable with used, it goes for around $38~ in “Used – Good” and $40~ in “Used – Very Good” and $43~ in “Used – Like New” by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. Since there are multiple listings and this is a newer not-as-well-known model, the chances of further price drops is reasonable (other things equal as always).
Used Bowers & Wilkins P9 for $720
If you don’t want to wait for future discounts, and you are comfortable with used, there are two listings offering the Bowers and Wilkins P9 headphones for $720 in “Used – Very Good” condition by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Their new condition price is $900… This surfaced while I was updating the Headphone Tracker…
Used Focal Utopia for $3700
If you are interested in the Focal Utopia and don’t mind used, here’s a listing to monitor, it is available in “Used – Like New” condition with less than 30 minutes of used by authorized dealer “Hidef Lifestyle” through Amazon Warehouse Deals. Considering the price, this may be around for a while, and as time goes by, the price may keep dropping. But you never really know for certain.
UPDATE/PSA: beware of bullshit/clickbait/trickbait listings on this and other Amazon products from sellers asking you to contact them before buying and offering them at significantly lower prices. Nothing good will come out of this for you. Ignore it or report it to Amazon, DO NOT BUY! Listings like this violate various Amazon seller rules.
Screenshot below to help consumers identify this danger to their wallets:
[DEAD] Used MEE Audio M6 PRO In-Ears for $25~
As of 11/13/16 AM re-check, the used options for this sold out… The MEE Audio M6 PRO In-Ears go for $50 in new condition, but if you are comfortable with used, you can get them for half price at Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) where AWD actual is offering them in “Used – Like New” condition for around $25, in damaged original packaging. Free shipping for Prime members or with the usual order limits ($49+ or $25+ in books)… These average 4 out of 5 based on 1200+ customer reviews with a 9:1 review intensity ratio.
PS: I define “review intensity ratio” to be the ratio of 5-star reviews vs 1-star reviews.
Open-Box Hifiman HE400S Planars for $199
The Hifiman HE400S planars had resistance in the $220s in used condition at Amazon Warehouse Deals, but they have found a new bottom right now, you can get them in open-box used condition for $199 with free shipping by BuyDig on eBay and by Beach Camera through Amazon Warehouse Deals. BuyDig and Beach are the same company, so you have a choice of marketplace (eBay or Amazon).
Open-box/Used Hifiman HE-400i for $269
The Hifiman HE-400S came in at $300 in new condition to usurp the older HE-400i, but if it is the HE-400i the one you want, you can get it in open-box condition for $269 with free shipping by Buydig on eBay and “Used – Like New” by Beach Camera thru Amazon Warehouse Deals. Buydig and Beach are the same company, so it may be the same item under two different marketplaces… Meanwhile RazorDog Audio has it in store demo condition for $289…
Used V-Moda Crossfade Bluetooth Over-Ears for $195.50+
The V-Moda Crossfade Wireless (Bluetooth based on the M100 model) is also participating in the 15% off Amazon Warehouse Deals in-cart discount, and with the discount factored in, the lowest price is $195.50 in “Used – Very Good” condition for the Phantom-Chrome color scheme by Amazon Warehouse Deals. The other two colors are slightly more. The previous link shows the lowest price per color, and only the Prime-eligible models. If you want to see detailed listings per color, click on the “See all offers for this product”. For example, these are the detailed listings for the Phantom Chrome color scheme.
PS: remember, for these 15% off in-cart offers, only products sold by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual are eligible. Products sold by other marketplace sellers are not eligible (even if they are fulfilled by Amazon aka Prime eligible). They also have a little reminder for eligible items in the detailed listings; screenshot below:
Amazon Warehouse Deals 15% off In-Cart promotion continues – Used Sennheiser RS120 for $37+ [updated]
A new month is here, but the 15% off automatic in-cart discount continues at Amazon Warehouse Deals, featuring over 21,000 items, including 270+ headphones. If you are not familiar with the mechanics of this, check our earlier mini explainer post.
This brings us to the Sennheiser RS120 RF wireless headphone that dropped in price recently, and combined with the 15% off in-cart discount, it is now down to $37~ in “Used – Very Good” condition by Amazon Warehouse Deals.
PRICES UPDATED 11/5/16 late PM: they ran out of “Used – Good”, and the “Used – Very Good” price upticked, that’s why now the lowest eligible price is $37~ after in-cart discount to $31.54 in “Used – Good” condition by and $34.67 in “Used – Very Good” condition.
If an item is eligible, you will see the 15% off discount reflected in the shopping cart, both the right hand side that shows the total, and the individual box for the individual product on the main column, screenshot of that below:
The screenshot below shows the older prices, but you can still use it to locate the in-cart discount confirmations. I put it after the jump so it doesn’t create confusion…
[DEAD] Used Fiio A3 portable head-amp for $32
This is no longer available at this price but used items come and go…
And now a mini excursion into Amazon Warehouse Deals begins (it “begins” with post upwards from here, not downwards, since blog-posts are posts in reverse chronological order), Electronics Expo (East Coast retail chain) is offering the portable Fiio A3 headphone-amp in “Used – Like New” condition for $32~ through Amazon Warehouse Deals. Free shipping for all since it ships directly from Electronics Expo, but it is not Prime eligible. The new condition price of this critter is $60, and it averages 4.4 out of 5, based on 300+ customer reviews.
Used Schiit Asgard 2 headphone amp for $225+
The Schiit Asgard 2 headphone amp goes for $250 plus mandatory shipping (around $15; varies by zpicode) in new condition at the Schiit website (and $290 Prime-eligible at Amazon), but if you are okay with used, you can get it in B-Stock condition for $210 plus the aforementioned mandatory shipping at the Schiit website (select “B-Stock” under the “Finish” option).
As of 11/6/16 PM recheck, AWD sold out of used options: or for $231 in “Used – Very Good” condition by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.
Used Schiit Valhalla 2 OTL headphone amp for $310+
The Schiit Valhalla 2 OTL headphone amp goes for $350 + S&H in new condition at Schiit’s website (or $389 w/Prime shipping at Amazon), but if you want to save some, you can get it for $300 plus mandatory shipping (on average $15~ for slowest shipping method depending on zipcode) in B-Stock condition at the Schiit website (select B-Stock under the “Finish” menu).

Used Grado SR80e On-Ears for $77
The open-back Grado SR80e are described by many as a good entry into the Grado line-up without risking too much money on them. They go for $100 in new condition at authorized dealers, but if you are comfortable with used, you can get them in “Used – Very Good” condition (cosmetic imperfection, damaged original pizza box) for $77~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.
Used Shure SRH 1440 Open-Back for $185
The open-back over-ear Shure SRH 1440 are available in “Used – Acceptable” condition with multiple cosmetic imperfections and in damaged original packaging for $185~ with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. Considering the rating and description, this is perhaps for higher-risk and/or less-perfectionist shoppers. The new condition price is $300.
PS: remember the even numbers of the 4-digit models are open-back (1440, 1840), while the odd numbers (1540) are closed.
Refurbished Sony MDR-100AP Closed Over-Ears for $100
One more used offer that surfaced while I was checking the various headphones in the Headphone Tracker, it is the closed-back over-ear Sony MDR-100AP headphone, part of their “h.ear” line-up, available in manufacturer refurbished condition in either black color scheme or yellow color scheme for $100 with free shipping by Secondipity thru Amazon. It ships directly from Secondipity, so it is not Prime eligible. It comes with a 90-day warranty (being manufacturer refurbished) and a 30-day Secondipity guarantee. They ship in a brown box with standard accessories.
Used Beyerdynamic Byron BTA In-Ears for $158
More of the IFA 2016 era headphones are floating in the market, more so that they are now making the rounds in the used market. Case in point, the Beyerdynamic Byron BTA bluetooth in-ears go for $200 in new condition, but if you prefer used, it currently goes for around $158 (“Used – Very Good” condition; minor cosmetic imperfections; damaged packaging) by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. You can also monitor the used price to see if it furthers drops over time.
Used Bowers & Wilkins P7 Wireless for $317 [was $340]
Also surfacing during the Headphone Tracker Update, we have the first wave of used Bowers & Wilkins P7 bluetooth headphones. They go for $400 in new condition, but if you are comfortable with used, there are two “Used – Like New” listings (damaged original packaging) going for $317 [was $340] with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual… Price updated here 10/30/16 at 7:25pm…
[DEAD] Used Sony MDR-1000X ANC BT Over-Ears for $315
As of a 11/1/16 AM re-check, the used options are all sold-out… The new Sony MDR-1000X ANC-Bluetooth over-ear model is now steadily in-stock at $400 at authorized dealers (see New Headphone Tracker) but if you are comfortable with used, there are two listings of the black color scheme in “Used – Very Good” condition (minor cosmetic imperfections, damaged original packaging) going for $315 by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.
Used Beyerdynamic T51i On-Ears for $139+
Another one of the 15% off AWD option it is the closed-back on-ear Beyerdynamic T51i portable headphone. With the 15% off discount factored it, the prices at Amazon Warehouse Deals are $139~ in “Used – Good” condition and $148~ in “Used – Very Good”. There are MANY listings are “Used – Very Good” so over time, price pressure may build on this and bring it down.
NOTE: eligible items for this promotion show this in the detailed AWD listings, here’s a screenshot:
Used Bowers & Wilkins P5 S2 starts at $136 [corrected]
Another find while digging through the 15% off Warehouse Deals, it is the closed-back on-ear Bowers & Wilkins P5 second generation (aka S2).
CORRECTION: The used recertified model is NOT eligible… The first option is the Used condition of the Recertified model. That is someone returned or traded in a recertified model at Amazon, and Amazon Warehouse Deals is selling it as a used version of the recertified. The used price of this $139~, then when you add it to cart, it drops to $118 in “Used – Good” Recertified condition. There is only one listing of this.
The “traditional used” model, a used model of what was once sold as a new condition model has many listings of it starting at “Used – Good” with after-discount prices going for $136 (Used – Good) or $145 (Used – Very Good). Screenshot of the Checkout part of the page below:
Keep in mind, the used options have a price ceiling of sorts, because the Recertified option with a 2-year warranty goes for $186. The new condition goes for $236+ at reputable dealers.
Used V-Moda XS On-Ears for $89
One of the used headphones participating in the 15% off AWD Fall Sale are the closed-back on-ear V-Moda XS in the matte-black color scheme, with after-discount prices going for $89 (“Used – Good”) or $95 (“Used – Very Good”). The link shows only the eligible listings (AWD actual being the seller). This link shows all used sellers (not just AWD). Only items sold by AWD actual are eligible (AWD = Amazon Warehouse Deals).
Here’s a screenshot of the Checkout page showing the discount:
15% off Select Used Headphones (and other gear) at AWD
Amazon Warehouse Deals runs some seasonal promotions. During back to school, a lot of related items had an in-cart 15% off discount. Back to school is over, now they have a Fall Themed 15% Off In-Cart Sale with over 21,800 items participating. To find headphone related items, use the search bar them to search for “headphones” or “earphones” or “IEMs” or “Amp” any other relevant term, or search for your brands of interest. Make sure the Search Scope shown there is “Warehouse Deals Monthly Selection” (see screenshot below):
You can also use the categories and sub-categories on the left hand side of the page over there to further drill down. There are multiple pathways to headphones, under Electronics, eg “Portable Audio & Video”, “Accessories & Supplies”, “Headphones” (obviously), and also the “Musical Instruments” category.
Only items sold and shipped by “Amazon Warehouse Deals” as the seller are eligible. Items sold by marketplace sellers are NOT eligible. Here’s an example of an eligible item, one of the V-Moda M100, with the price automatically dropping by 15% in the top right corner of the Checkout page when you get there. You don’t see the discount until you get to that place in the checkout process. Screenshot:
Used Recertified Bowers & Wilkins P3 for $45 to $52 (depending on color scheme)
We mentioned earlier that the new condition Bowers and Wilkins P3 are going for $77 to $90, but if you want to get them and pay under $50, and you are willing to go double-used, then there are two options at Amazon Warehouse Deals. What I mean by “double used” is that these are used condition headphones of the recertified models. In other words, someone bought the recertified from Amazon, then returned them or traded them in, and now Amazon Warehouse Deals is selling the recertified models in used condition. Not as mind-bending as Looper, but getting there 😉
Two of the colors are available under $50 in “used recertified” condition at Amazon Warehouse Deals, the black color scheme goes for $45 in “Used – Good” and $48 in “Used – Very Good” or $51 in “Used – Like New”. They have multiple listings, so there is the possibility of price pressure bringing them further down.
Meanwhile the white color scheme is available in “Used – Good” condition for $45. The blue color scheme goes for $52 in “Used – Very Good” condition and they multiple listings, which could put more price pressure on them.
Refurbished MEE Audio Matrix2 AF62 Bluetooth for $50
The new condition MEE Audio Matrix 2 AF-62 bluetooth headphones go for $61 in new condition at recognizable dealers (eg amazon.com), but if you prefer to save some more, you can get it for $50 with free shipping in manufacturer refurbished condition with a 90 day warranty by the official MEE Audio eBay store. Limit five units per customer.
These are bluetooth 4.0 headphones with AAC and apt-X codecs, with NFC (handy for easier pairing if you mix and match multiple sources and headsets in the same vicinity). It has a built-in battery and can also play music via standard 3.5mm audio cables.
Refurbished 16GB Zune HD for $60
Your whole world does not begin to Zoom, it begins to …Zune if you purchase this eBay listing: eBay seller “Digital Outlet” (99.4%, Northern California) is offering the manufacturer refurbished 16GB Microsoft Zune HD for $60 with free shipping. It comes with a cable but no headset. It is covered by a 60 day warranty. Limit 50 units per customer. Over 1700 of these Zunes got sold according to the in-page eBay statistics over there.
This had an OLED screen before it was cool 🙂 It also plays DRM’ed WMA music files being in close proximity with Microsoft. It is really sad this got yanked out, Zune was just finding its legs right as they killed it. Also cancelled along with the Zune was the entertaining Zune podcast.
Refurbished Sony MDR-XB450AP/B Extra Bass for $35
