Now shipping: Sennheiser HD 660S for $500 [updated]

The brand new open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 660S is now in-stock and shipping by Electronics EXPO (East Coast Chain) through Amazon. It ships directly from World Wide Stereo and it is not Prime eligible… Amazon’s own listing remains at the all-encompassing “temporarily out of stock”…

UPDATE: Electronics EXPO sold out since the original post, but WWS has it as well…

Fry’s Black Friday doorbuster is Sennheiser RS-135 RF for $49 (after promo code)

Fry’s revealed their chaotic Black Friday Ad and I went through them and integrated them into our BF Ads Summary post. Most of their offers require “Promo Codes”. You get those in emails by signing up to their emailing list. They have their own way of doing things 🙂

The big doorbuster headphone-wise is the Sennheiser RS 135 RF set that will go for $49 AFTER you use your promo code from the email of that day. The offer will run on Black Friday only, and you can buy only one, either online or at their B&M store.

The teaser (seen above) in the Ad page does not mention the model name, but when you click on the link or search for the product number 8772561, it takes to the page of the Sennheiser RS 135.

Sennheiser HD 660 S now orderable at Amazon

Deciding on a Sennheiser HD 6??-series headphone is more complicated these days. You have the old guard of the HD 600 and HD 650, the Massdropping HD 6XX, and the price-dropping HD 700. But that’s not all. Sennheiser is releasing the brand new HD 660 S as well, with a starting price of $500, and this new headphone is now slowly starting to roll out.

If you are a fan of shopping at Amazon, you can now purchase it for $500 at Amazon by Amazon actual. The stock situation is “Temporarily out of stock”, so the shipping estimate is nebulous at the moment, so if you are buying it as a holiday gift for someone, keep that in mind.

Sennheiser HD 206 Closed Over-Ears for $29 w/free S&H

Sennheiser’s timing was a bit off. The HD 202 / HD 201 got discontinued before they could reap the benefits of a very favorable Innerfidelity review, which is part of the reason why you see them have crazy prices now 🙂

There was one old school replacement model in the HD 20X series though, and it is currently on sale, it is the closed-back over-ear HD 206 going for $29 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with up to three per customer at the sale price. They average 3.7 out of 5 based on 26 customer reviews. I do not know how these sound compared to the HD 202 / HD 201.

Sennheiser HD 650 + Apogee Groove USB DAC/amp for $500

If you happen to want both the new condition Sennheiser HD 650 open-back over-ear headphones AND the Apogee Groove USB DAC/amp, you can get them for $500 with free shipping at the official Sennheiser Store.

Now if you only want one of the two, the math gets more complicated. If you also factor in the Sennheiser HD 6XX, and you don’t have a fixed time frame for the purchase, then things can get more complicated.

Speaking of open-back Sennheiser, their new HD 599 open over-ears is down to $200 by Amazon actual and the official Sennheiser store. This if you want to buy it now. If you don’t have a fixed time frame, they will probably have sales in the next few weeks/months if history repeats itself.

Sennheiser HD1 bluetooth neckband earphones for $145

Sennheiser too is starting to make Black Friday noises. Their new condition Sennheiser HD1 bluetooth neckband earphones are on sale for the very specific price of $144.90 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. It looks like an automated price-match of two marketplace sellers that have it at the very same price. The earphones average 4 out of 5 based on 65 customer reviews and they have 40 answered questions.

PS: as previously mentioned the HD1 Closed Over-Ears are on sale for $250.

Sennheiser HD1 Closed Over-Ears for $250

A few months ago Sennheiser renamed their Momentum line to “HD1” in the US market, allegedly because of naming rights and such. Their wired HD1 closed-back over-ears are on sale in new condition for $250 at Sennheiser’s own shop and at B&H Photo and Amazon actual in two different color schemes and with iOS or Android buttons.

Sennheiser PXC 550 BT/ANC Over-Ears for $300

This is like a yo-yo, the new condition Sennheiser PXC 550 BT/ANC over-ears are on sale again for $300 with free shipping at B&H Photo and Amazon by Amazon actual (limit 3). As usual, the sale will likely continue go for a few hours/days [unpredictable] and then go back up.

Sennheiser HD 630VB Closed Over-Ears with Variable Bass Control for $290

It looks like Amazon’s price bots may have automatically price-matched marketplace sellers on their website, making the new condition Sennheiser HD 630VB Headphone with Variable Bass and Call Control going for $290 with free shipping, sold and shipped by Amazon actual. Up to three pairs per customer from Amazon actual (you can buy more from the marketplace sellers but warranty situation from them is uncertain). Amazon’s own estimate is “usually ships in 5-7 business days”.

This is a lesser known and rather unusual headphone given the Sennheiser line-up. It has Variable Bass control through a rotary dial on the earcup, and even though it’s not wireless, it has on-earcup volume and call controls. It is a closed-back over-ear that folds (collapsing style).

It averages 4.4 out of 5 based on 31 customer reviews, and has 20 answered questions by the internet people.

Free Sennheiser HD 4.20s Over-Ears with purchase of Flex 500 Digital Wireless System for $200 total

It’s a Sennheiser Combo Value Meal! For a limited time, if you purchase the Sennheiser Flex 5000 Digital Wireless Headphone system for its current price of $200, you can get the closed-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 4.20s (don’t smoke them!) for FREE!

To get the freebies, you must have both of them in the shopping cart, and both must be sold and shipped by Amazon actual (not marketplace sellers) and in new condition. Add one of each in the shipping cart:

+ Sennheiser Flex 5000 Digital Wireless Headphone

+ Sennheiser HD 4.20s Over-Ears, closed-back
+ oops, almost forgot, we have a text and pictures unboxing here of the HD 4.20s headphones (no annoying audio/video)
+ so mayhaps there is a method to this bundling madness, because the HD 4.20s’s best feature is perhaps the earpads, comfort for long TV viewing/listening sessions

Then proceed to checkout, and at the top right corner of the Checkout page, the current price of the HD 4.20s will be automatically discounted. there’s no coupon code to enter. If you don’t see the discount, it means the promotion expired or something else is wrong. You must see the discount, otherwise you won’t get the discount!

Here’s a screenshot of how it should look:

What the Frell is the Sennheiser Flex 500?

The Sennheiser HD 4.20s is part of the Sennheiser HD 4*.* series, a known entity. But what exactly is this $200 Flex 500 digital wireless headphone thing?

This is based on the product description, I haven’t seen this: it is a more stylish wireless audio system, that is not using Bluetooth, so it is an RF wireless. It has digital optical and analog inputs. The receiver has a built-in rechargeable battery. The transmitter is more stylish than the usual pucks and headphone stand style transmitters of old. It looks more like a stylized doorstop 🙂

You can use any headphones with it, it has a 3.5mm audio port. Included in the package are the MX 475 earbuds [check their product page]. These come standard inside the Flex 500 box.

Since the Flex 500 can take any 3.5mm headphones, the limited Sennheiser promotion is giving the HD 4.20s closed over-ears for FREE since some people may prefer full-size headphones instead of earbuds. You have to manually add the HD 4.20s in the shopping cart to get them for FREE. The MX 475 earbuds come sealed in the Flex 500 package – you don’t have to do anything to get these (other than buy the Flex 500 item).

Note that the Flex 500 is targeting TV viewers. If you are interested in using this for music listening, there are trade-offs to consider versus other wireless audio options, and some of that may depend on exactly where you are planning to use it (RF interference, etc).

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX is back for $200 [ships XMas]

It is back on! The open-back over-ear Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones are running again at the Massdrop website for $200 with free shipping. A total of 4500 units are available as part of this drop, which runs until October 23/24 in 2017. Under 1200 units have been sold as of the time of writing, so you have plenty of time to decide.

This makes the HD 600 vs HD 650 vs HD 6XX more complicated. It is made in Ireland and comes with a 2-year warranty, and surprise-surprise, this is shipping faster than the previous time. The shipping estimate for this is December 20, 2017, so it’s “just” two months and change. About half the wait time than before 🙂

Sennheiser HD 558 Open Over-Ears for $60

Sennheiser launched their new generation of HD 5XX headphones with model numbers ending in 9s, but one of the previous generation, the 8s, still survives at Best Buy, and every few days/weeks it goes on sale, we are talking about the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 558 currently on sale for $60 with free shipping or free store pickup where possible/available.

The HD 558 was the middle of a three tier open-back line with the 518 and 598 below and above it respectively. Certainly not a bad price/value combo if you want to get your first open-back headphone, if you are looking for alternatives to the hype train that is the Philips SHP 9500S.

Used Sennheiser HD 630VB Variable Bass Over-Ears for $222

Sennheiser too dabbled in Variable Bass headphones. Their HD 630VB Headphone with Variable Bass and Call Control closed-back model is currently available in “Used – Very Good” condition for $222~ and “Used – Like New” for $236~ by Amazon Warehoouse Deals actual. A total of four listings are available by AWD actual. The headphones average 4.4 out of 5 based on 30 customer reviews.

The case on its own goes for $20 to $30 depending on which seller and what kind of shipping speed you want.

Sennheiser HDR 160 Headphones for $49 [limit 3]

Please note this headphone cannot work stand-alone! It is part of the RS 160 wireless system. You need to have a transmitter/base for them too play music. The reason they are sold individually is because you can pair more than one headphone to a transmitter/base, so multiple people can listen to them, or you can continue listening when one pair runs out of battery.

With that out of the way, the new condition Sennheiser HDR 160 Headphones are on sale for $49 with free shipping and a limit of up to three pairs per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual. These average 4 out of 5 based on 100+ customer reviews and they have almost 40 questions answered.

These are part of the previous generation of Sennheiser RS-wireless models and they use KLEER technology. The headphones are powered by two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries.

Sennheiser PXC 550 ANC/BT for $300 [limit 3]

Sennheiser has a two-pronged approach going after the tech/popular ANC with Bluetooth over-ears market. The Momentum (HD1) series, and the PXC series. The PXC 550 headphone with bluetooth and ANC (NoiseGard in Sennheiser-speak) is currently on sale in new condition for $300 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. There, it averages 4.2 out of 5 based on 220+ customer reviews.

PS: Later today, I will reboot the Latest Deals Summary and remove most of the old entries there, since a number of headphones lingered there for weeks. If you want to take one last look before the reboot, check it now! The main reason for the reboot is that it has gotten way too long to read and too unyieldy to edit 🙂

Sennheiser HD 579 for $100 [Massdrop]

There is no mention of warranty in the product listing, so keep that in mind. Assume there is none to be on the safe side!

Fully unlocked today and running for the next 12 days, the new condition Sennheiser HD 579 open-back over-ear headphones, part of the new HD 5** line launched at IFA 2016, are on sale at Massdrop for $100 with free shipping. The shipping estimate is late October 2017.

Sennheiser HD 200 Closed Over-Ears for $50

It is discount-heiser time, it looks like Sennheiser has signaled its authorized dealers that they are allowed to lower the price of the new condition closed-back over-ear HD 200 to $50 with free shipping, including Guitar Center and Amazon actual and Musician’s Frenemy and B&H Photo and others.

At Amazonheiser, this averageheisers 3.8 out of 5 based on 12 customerheiser reviews. Okay, I’ll stop 🙂 It also has four questions answered. It has 32 ohm impedance, and from the looks of it a non-detachable one-side cable.

Sennheiser HD 280 Closed Over-Ears for $80 [new model]

The Sennheiser HD 280 closed-back over-ear headphones have a minor refresh but they have kept the HD 280 model name, without even adding a II to them. The so called “new model” is on sale, it is going for $80 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. This is a sale, not a lightning deal.

The customer reviews for the new and older models are blended together, so keep that in mind if reading reviews and answered questions.

Sennheiser HD 558 Open Over-Ears for $70

They are back on sale again, it’s a cyclical sale these days at Best Buy oscillating between $70 and $80, the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 558 going for $70 with free shipping or free store pickup. These are part of the previous generation of 8s that got replaced with the 9s in the HD-5XX series (normal use of the X, not the Massdrop naming-convention hijack).
