Audio Technica ATH-AD1000X Open-Back with $60 eGift Card for $229
The same combo is back with another similar promotion. “aSavings” an the internet imprint/persona of Focus Camera, and through the NewEgg website, they are offering the open-back over-ear Audio-Technica ATH-AD1000X headphones for $229 with free shipping and a $60 promotional NewEgg e-gift card.
If you don’t see the aSavings offer there, look for it in the Sidebar over there under “Best Service Sellers”.
The e-gift card can be used at NewEgg, not at aSavings (which is good and more flexible) within one year of issuance. While this promotion is running (until Saturday 7/16/17), the e-gift card will be emailed to you a few days after purchase automatically. There’s no coupon code to enter. If you don’t see the e-gift card mentioned on the listing, it means the offer expired. See screenshot below:
PS: that “D” lost in the middle of the product name is what signifies that they are open-back. The models without the “D” are closed. One simple mnemonic to tell them apart is that “D” is close to an “O” as in Open π
Beyerdynamic DT1350 Gold Edition with $25 eGift Card for $125
NewEgg is back with a promotional gift card offer, good until Saturday 7/16/17. You can get the new condition closed-back on-ear BeyerDynamic DT1350 Limited Gold Edition for $125 with free shipping, along with a $25 promotional NewEgg e-gift card. The e-gift card will be emailed to you a few days after the purchase, and will be good for a whole year. The seller is Focus Camera, not NewEgg actual. It will ship from Focus Camera.
This is not a head to toe gold headphone, it only has gold accents, eg the outside of the earcups.
AKAI 50X Closed Over-Ears for $25 [updated]
As of 7/12/17 re-check, the AKAI 50X Closed Over-Ears has increased from $19~ to $25~.
As the stock traders like to say, this is like trying to catch a falling knife. The prices of the AKAI 50X closed-back over-ear studio-ish headphones, aka Audio Technica M50X name-a-likes, keep on dropping! As of the time of writing, you can get them in new condition for the very specific price of $19.43 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. Limit up to three per customer.
This offer is available to everyone, not just Prime members. At this point, one could buy them for accessories and experimentation and cannibalization. They come with two 6-inch cables (coiled and straight), a leatherette pouch, and a 1/4 to 1/8″ adapter. They average 3.5 out of 5 based on 68 customer reviews.
They were going for $26 when I posted the Latest Deals Summary last week.
AmazonBasics Closed Over-Ear Headphones for $6.87
The new condition AmazonBasics Closed-Back Over-Ear Headphones are now down to $6.87 [WAS $7.83] with free shipping at Aamzon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. As with other AmazonBasics headphones, they appear under different brand names. Their design looks familiar, but I don’t recall which other brands share this design. They average 3.6 out of 5 based on 100+ customer reviews.
I haven’t heard the above, so I know nothing about them. They should not be confused with the bang-for-the buck darling that is the AmazonBasics On-Ears which are not on sale, and they, along with their Monoprice and other branded cousins got praise. Of interest if you want a tastefully bassy portable lightweight headphone for modern music genres. They may be a Prime Day deal later, but they are too popular to get a big discount like the over-ears above. The On-Ears have over 3300 customer reviews versus just 100 of the over-ears.
[DEAD] Sony XB950 N1 ANC + BT Over-Ears will be part of Prime Day Festivities
It turns the model participating in the lightning deals is the Sony MDR-XB950 B1 for $98, not the N1!

Hifiman HE 560 Planars for $500
Hide your wallets. The planars are coming! The official Hifiman store is now offering the new condition HE 560 planar magnetic headphones for $500 with free shipping with the orders fulfilled by Amazon (Prime eligible) and also through their official eBay store.
The sale has also propagated to NY’s B&H Photo. All these options are a lot safer than the iffy and unknown marketplace seller offering them for $400 through Walmart a few weeks ago.
Used Blue Satellite Bluetooth for $295
The Blue Microphones Satellite bluetooth headphones where the last to roll out when Blue expanded their headphone line-up. It remains at $400 in new condition, but if you don’t want to wait for discounts and you are comfortable with used condition headphones, they are available in “Used – Good” condition for $295~ at Amazon Warehouse Deals and they have multiple listings in “Used – Very Good” for $314~. Since there are multiple listings, price pressure may lead to further discounting in the future.
In other Blue Mic action, their unpowered LOLA sale ended, now both colors go for $250. However, there is some hope, because Amazon’s own price did not go up, they just yanked their own offer, so the lowest price is $250 by other sellers. It is possible that when Amazon’s own offer returns, it may be at the sale price. Most of the times it is not, but you never know.
However, the powered Mo-Fi in the black color scheme continues to go for $210 with a 2-4 weeks shipping estimate.
[DEAD] Lightning Deals: Brainwavz HM2 On-Ears for $29.50; Creative X7 for $282

[DEAD] KEF M500 On-Ears (Black) for $200
This lightning deal expired…
A rather busy Sunday of Lightning Deals includes the black color scheme of the KEF M500 Hi-Fi On-Ear Headphones going for $200 with free shipping until 5:44pm ET tonight. The price before the sale was $300 last night. The Black/Aluminum was a lighting deal a couple of days ago for $200 as well.
Sony H.Ear MDR-100AAP for $109
If you like wine-pink (okay, Bordeaux Pink) colored headphones, you are in luck! The Bordeaux Pink color scheme of the new condition closed-back Sony H.Ear MDR-100AAP are on sale for $109 with free shipping by Beach Camera with the order fulfiled by Amazon, so you get free 2-day shipping.
If you prefer a different color, the Lime Yellow goes for $119. You can see all the colors on the same listing, but only these two are on sale thusly.
These are wired, no bluettooth, no ANC, no Extra Bass. They almost feel naked without any buzzwords π They average 4 out of 5 based on 47 customer reviews.
PS: I can’t easily tell from the pictures if they are over-ear or on-ear. But they are closed-back for sure, and they fold.
Sennheiser Urbanite XL Over-Ears for $93
Pricing of the Urbanite series, between the Over-Ears and the On-Ears, the different colors, and the iOS and Android options is literally all over the place. Throwing darts is more predictable than trying to predict.
Which brings us to the new condition closed-back over-ear Urbanite XL Over-Ears in the Denim color scheme with the iOS remote/mic, on sale for $93 with free shipping. It is currently restricted to Prime members with a limit of up to three units per customer.
The iOS/Android is basically the remote control on the detachable cable. You can use these headphones with any device. The only difference is what remote control functions will work with non-iOS devices. Or you can use your own cable, or purchase a Sennheiser Android cable. In other words, don’t let the “iOS” scare you away π
All these versions together average 3.9 out of 5 based on 350+ customer reviews, and have over 130 answered questions. Their in-stock estimate date is July 12 (2017).
If you love this price and you are not a Prime member, you can start a 30-day Free Trial, which will also let you participate in the Prime Day Festivities, and you can always cancel it before the 30 days if you don’t want to be charged. Caution though, a Prime membership is addictive once you have it π
The next closest price is the Black iOS version go for $113~ and this one is open to all customers, not just Prime members.
Used KEF M400 On-Ears for $112
It’s KEF Day today π While the new condition closed-back on-ear M500 is $200 Lightning Deal, if you prefer the K400 On-Ears instead, you can get them in “Used – Very Good” condition (repackaged) for $112~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual (AWD). This is the black color scheme. The other used color go for more, closer to the $200 new condition price.
PS: as usual with AWD, make sure you check who the seller is, and avoid the “Just Launched” and low rated and iffy looking sellers. Buying “fulfilled by Amazon” adds a layer of protection, since you deal with Amazon’s own customer service in case of problems.
Used KEF M500 Closed On-Ears for $181 [updated]
The 6-hour lightning deal of the new condition KEF M500 Hi-Fi On-Ear Headphones in the Black/Aluminum for $200 expired and it is back to $300.
But remaining is a βUsed β Like Newβ option for $181~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual on the Black/Aluminum color scheme.
The headphones average 3.8 out of 5 based on 60 customer reviews, and have eight questions peer-answered.
Skullcandy Crusher Headphones with Built-in Amplifier for $48
Powered non-ANC, non-Bluetooth headphones are rare, but not as rare as they used to be. Skullcandy (trigger warning for some audiophiles) has 15 different color schemes (!) for their Skullcandy Crusher Headphones with Built-in Amplifier (powered by a AA battery in the earcup) and they are on sale with varying different prices. The lowest of them is the White color scheme going for around $48 at amazon.com, with the microfloral a close second at $49~, and RealTree Dark Tan for $50. A number of sellers offer each color, check each color listing.
PS: File this under April Fool’s Day ideas: the color of the headphone affects its sound signature because …solar rays and heat absorption π
PS2: speaking of powered headphones, the Blue Microphone’s Mo-Fi continues to go for $210, while the unpowered LOLA also continues for $125. Both have a few weeks estimated shipment delay.
[DEAD] Sunday’s Offers: Creative X7 USB DAC/amp, KEF M500, Brainwavz HM2, UrbanEars, Thinksound, Symphonized, Etc

Now shipping: Audio Technica ATH-DSR9BT with Pure Digital Drive for $549
UPDATE: Blog-post title correction: the price is $549, not $600!
The Audio Technica ATH-DSR9BT that generated some buzz at CES 2017 thanks to its semi-mysterious βPure Digital Drive” technology has now began shipping at its starting price of $549 by a couple of recognizable sellers, “Audio Advice” and “Electronics Expo”, both fulfilled by Amazon, so Prime members get them in about two days.
Amazon’s own listing is a nebulous “Usually ships within 1 to 2 months”. This headphone is a Bluetooth 4.2 with support for aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs.
Philips SHP9500S for $53 with free S&H
The new condition Philips SHP9500S went as low as $49 in new condition as far as I can recall, but if you don’t want to wait for a new “price bottom” to appear, it is currently on sale in new condition for $53 with free shipping at NewEgg by NewEgg actual. The offer runs until next Monday, so there’s no hurry.
Their new condition eBay listing is currently out of stock.
Their open-box option is currently out of stock and cannot be ordered.
We have a Text and Pictures Unboxing post here. I am planning to use this as a guinea pig for my “long form” review format. Which is currently only written in my head π
Used Grado SR225e Open-Back for $162
If you are interested in getting the Grado SR-225e used, and have some patience (eg, you don’t need them yesterday), there are multiple listings of them in “Used – Good” condition for $162 at Amazon Warehouse Deals. If supply wins over demand, the Amazon price bots may discount them in the future. This is of course only a guess, as no one (probably not even Amazon employees) can guess for sure since Amazon is very data-driven and (their software/bots) make multiple on-the-fly adjustments.
The headphones themselves average 4.3 out of 5 based on 100+ customer reviews. There are many philosophies on what the entry-point into Grado might be for one. Some suggest the low risk approach of the SR80/SR60, others the SR125, and yet others the SR225.
AmazonBasics Over-Ear Wireless RF Headphones for $22
As part of the Pre Prime Day Festivities, Amazon is discounting a variety of its own brand products, including the new condition AmazonBasics Over-Ear Wireless RF Headphones for $22 [WAS $24] with a limit of up to three units per customer. You get the headset and the transmitter/base. This is good old RF radio signals, not bluetooth. They average 3.5 out of 5 based on over 400 customer reviews, and have 120 questions answered.
Needless to say, these are more of utilitarian use (TV, movies, YouTube, audiobooks), not critical music listening.
Now shipping: Audio Technica ATH-DSR7BT with Pure Digital Drive for $299
The twin of ATH-DSR9BT is the $299 ATH-DSR7BT, and this too has began shipping for $299 from a couple of fulfilled by Amazon sellers, “Electronics Expo” and “Wasabi Japan”.
Amazon’s own listing is a rather ambiguous “Temporarily out of stock”. These too support aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC codecs.

Used Vic Firth Stereo Isolation SIH-1 headphones for $34 [updated]
UPDATE 7/5/17: there is now a “Used – Acceptable” condition option for $34~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual while the previously mentioned “Used – Like New” is no longer available…
The Vic Firth Stereo Isolation SIH-1 headphones go for $70 in new condition but if you want to save some, you can get them in “Used – Like New” condition (damaged original packaging) for $44~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. These headphones average 4.1 out of 5 based on nearly 350 customer reviews.
Akai Professional 50X Studio headphones down to $23
The price of this headphone has been steadily dropping (a “falling knife” situation as the stock traders like to say), falling faster than Alicia Keys can sing “I keep on falling”. It is the new condition Akai Professional 50X Studio headphones currently down to $23.47 at Amazon by Amazon actual with free shipping for Prime members or with a $25+ order for non-members. Limit three units per customer.
This looks and it is even named after the AT M50x π It averages 3.6 out of 5 based on 60+ customer reviews. It comes with two detachable cables, an adapter, and a leatherette pouch, so you get reusable accessories in addition to the headphones π
Used M-Audio M50 Over/On-Ears for $32
The M-Audio M50 Over-Ears (they look more on-ears to me looking at the pictures, but I can’t tell for certain since I haven’t seen them in person) go for around $80 in new condition, but if you want to save more than half off, you can get them in “Used – Good” condition (various cosmetic imperfections, damaged original packaging) for $32~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual, or $36~ in “Used – Like New” condition (damaged original packaging).
PS: when shopping at Amazon Warehouse Deals, make sure you check who the actual seller is. There are many iffy or “Just Launched” or “email me before you buy” or low-rated marketplace sellers over there. A safe bet is to buy from Amazon Warehouse Deals actual (Amazon’s own persona), and recognizable marketplace sellers (nationally known retailers or recognizable authorized local A/V retailers with Amazon stores).
Creative Flex Ultra-light On-Ears for $20
On the lightweight headphones front, the new condition Creative Flex Ultra-light Closed On-Ears are on sale for $20 by the Creative Amazon store, with the order fulfilled by Amazon, so you get free 2-day shipping as a Prime member. They only have one customer review so far from early June, so they may be more of interest to those of you who like to “discover” or “test” headphones that are not on the mainstream or off the radar.
The grills are decoration, they are not open. Zoom in the pictures in the gallery over there, and you’ll see there’s nothing behind the grills.
