Used Sennheiser HD700 for $349 [updated]

As of 4/5/16, the price dropped further down, now $349~…

As of a 4/3/16 re-check, this dropped to $355 in Used condition…

As of the time of writing there is one listing of the open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 700 headphones in “Used – Good” condition (minor cosmetic imperfections, damaged packaging) for $355~ [was $379~] with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) actual. The rest of the used listings are by marketplace sellers and go for more.

Screenshot of that above. As usual, please keep in mind that used quantities are very limited typically and their prices can change more often. The text here cannot be updated automatically when something changes, and I cannot be glued to the screen 24×7 refreshing, so it may be sold out by the time you see this…

Meanwhile the new condition model currently goes for $527~ with a limit of five per customer. This price looks to be a price-match of someone else, internal or external (to Amazon).

[DEAD] Used Beyerdynamic DT990 Premium (32 ohm) for $99

As of 9pm ET re-checking, the $99 AWD options got scooped up, and the lowest used prices are now $170+…

Interesting! The Beyerdynamic DT 990 open-back headphones in the PREMIUM version with 32 ohm impedance is currently available in “Used – Very Good” condition (minor cosmetic imperfections, damaged packaging) for $99~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) Actual.

Items that ship from AWD actual come with a 30-day return policy but Amazon (AWD) does not make any promises of warranty. Items that ship from other sellers at AWD have a variety of return policies. Some are authorized dealers and state that the item comes with a warranty. Others may have a return policy. Some may be individual persons selling their own headphones and are obviously not authorized.

Please also note that used items at AWD typically have limited quantities and both their quantity and prices may change more frequently than new condition products. The listings in this blog are typed-in text, they can’t be updated automatically when the price or quantity changes.

Used Definitive Technology Symphony 1 Over-Ear Bluetooth for $244

The Definitive Technology Symphony 1 Over-Ear Bluetooth headphones go for $400 in new condition, but if you want to secretly enjoy these in your basement away from the ire of the judgmental audiophile purist ceiling cat, you can get them in “Used – Like New” condition for $234 plus $10 flat shipping by Electronics Expo through Amazon Wareohouse Deals (AWD). These ship from Electronics Expo. AWD’s own lowest price is $299. The headphones average 4.1 out of 5 based on 37 customer reviews.

V-MODA VAMP Verza DAC/Amp for $375

The new condition V-MODA VAMP Verza DAC and amp (and battery pack too) is currently available in new condition in the black color scheme for $375 with free shipping by V-Moda through Amazon Warehouse Deals. For some reason (perhaps because the V-Moda store is not one of the featured sellers) this does not appear on the main product page for the amp, but you can see it when you look at the detailed results (the link above).

On the other hand if you prefer used, and you are willing to live with (and be seen with) the slightly obnoxious looking white-orange-brown version, you can get it for around $256 in “Used – Very Good” condition with cable and wristband missing by Mobile PC thru Amazon Warehouse Deals. This is a higher risk purchase however, since it ships from them ,not Amazon. They offer a 30-day money back guarantee, ship from California and average 89% in ratings. So again, this is a higher risk purchase since you won’t deal with Amazon’s own customer service.

Used Shure SRH 144 Semi-Open On-Ears for $20

Items that ship directly from marketplace sellers have their own shipping prices and options. They average 4.3 out of 5 based on 200+ customer reviews. I haven’t used these, but as you can see in the pictures, there is plenty of open-ness with those speaker grills.

Used BeoPlay H6 (first gen) for $240 to $261

If you can’t resist the Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H6 headphones but don’t want to pay the $400 new condition price, and you are not tempted by the second generation model (also $400), you can get the first-generation model in Used condition, with prices at $240 for the Natural/Brown color scheme and $261 for the black color scheme. These are the prices by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Other marketplace sellers may have them for slightly less, but they are a higher risk unless they are a well known seller or you have a higher risk threshold.

Used Beyerdynamic T5p for $556

If you are a fan of the Beyerdynamic Tesla line-up, their T5p is available in “Used – Good” condition with minor cosmetic imperfections and damaged packaging for $556~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.

Used HIFIMAN HM-901 for $800

We continue “digesting” various used items at Amazon Warehouse Deals, this time we go Hifiman with their HM-901 digital audio player, available in Used condition by two different sellers for $800, with both orders fulfilled by Amazon. The two sellers are Kraft Audio and HeadAmp Audio Electronics.

PS: in terms of categorization for the purposes of this blog, if a device can play music (regardless of how good its DAC/amp may be), I file it under Digital Audio Players. If it cannot play music, I file it under the AMPs and DACs category (speaking of which, I am resisting temptation to split it, because of hybrids and other categorization complications).

Used Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 for $182+

Sennheiser is stubborn on the prices of the Momentum 2.0 Over-Ears, so if you want them right now, going used may almost halve the price, depending on which model and OS combination you want. Taking a look at the latest Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) situation shows a variety of options. As usual, be careful when buying from marketplace sellers (not AWD Actual), since almost any person or business entity can sell there.

The link above shows the lowest price for each particular combination. To see all available sellers for a particular option, click on the “See all offers for this product” links next to it. For example, the lowest price shown on the above link for the Apple Black option is $170 by a “just launched” seller. This is way too risky for most people, so when you click on the “See all offers for this product”, you will be shown the detailed listings for that particular model, which include “Used – Very Good” for $182~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.

Used “Complete Guide to High-End Audio” Book for $4 shipped [2004 edition]

If you are a book completist, the 2004 edition of the “The Complete Guide to High-End Audio” paperback book by Robert Harley is available in Used Condition for $4 (with shipping included) by various sellers through Amazon.

Please note this particular edition of this book was published in April 2004, it was the 3rd edition, and has 640 pages. Since then, there was a 2010 edition and that was followed by the 2015 edition. The newer versions go for a lot more. So the 2004 edition is perhaps more of historical interest or for comparison between different eras.

Used Beyerdynamic A20 Headphone Amplifier for $427

More Amazon Warehouse Deals action, this time we have the Beyerdynamic A20 Headphone Amplifier in “Used – Good” condition offered for $427~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. Note that a marketplace seller has it for slightly less, but it is a higher-risk purchase since you are dealing with the seller, not the Amazon Customer Service. The amp itself averages 5 out of 5 based on 11 customer reviews.

Used Sennheiser PXC 250 II Collapsible ANC On-Ears for $54

Used Beyerdynamic T51i On-Ears for $146

The Beyerdynamic T51i currently go for $234~ in new condition, but if you prefer to save some more, there is a price pressure building up on them in used condition at Warehouse Deals. There are seven separate listings in “Used – Very Good” condition for around $146. There is a big gap in price between them and the “Used – Like New” which is much closer to the new condition price of $238. The multiple listings could potential push the price further down ~ other things equal.

These average 4.2 out of 5 based on 80+ customer reviews. These are closed on-ears with portable use in mind, and as the “i” suggest in the model name, they come with the 3-button MFi remote which means you get predictable button behavior with Apple’s devices, and randomess with Android and other mobile devices.

Used SONY PHA-2 Headphone Amplifier for $378

More headphone amplifier action, the SONY PHA-2 Headphone Amplifier is available in “Used – Good” condition (without any detailed comments) for $378~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. They also have a listing in “Used – Like New” for $428~.

Used Beyerdynamic T51i Portable On-Ears for $139

This is another listing to keep an eye out for. Even if the current price is not tempting enough, the bottom may fall out and create a “falling knife” type of a situation. As of the time of writing, there are a lot of listings of the Beyerdynamic T51i Portable Closed On-Ears in “Used – Very Good” condition for $139~, all of them by Amazon Warehouse Deals. If they don’t get sold fast enough, their pricing system will likely discount them further to entice shoppers. No one outside Amazon really knows how exactly the discounting process works, we are of course all guessing, but that’s a lot of listings for a headphone model that is more known to audiophiles than average consumers. It averages 4.2 out of 5 based on 84 customer reviews.

Used Sony XBA H3 Hybrid 3-way In-Ears for $175 to $187

The “BA” is unmistakable in the model name, it’s balanced armature time, the Sony XBA H3 Hybrid 3-way In-Ears have many listings at Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD). The lowest price is currently $175 in “Used – Good” with many more listings for $187~ in “Used – Very Good”. It looks like there is price pressure on them, perhaps that one “Used – Good” may be the dam that is holding back the discounting. Even if this price is not right, you may want to keep an eye out for them in case of future discounts (not guaranteed that they will drop further though ~ speculation based on patterns).

Used Bravo Audio V1 headphone amp for $60

The Bravo Audio V1 headphone amp is currently offered in “Used – Good” condition (repackaged, missing user manual) for $60 with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. The Bravo averages 4.3 out of 5 based on 68 customer reviews. There’s only one used listing.

Note however that there are multiple similar Bravo Audio tube-y amps, so be sure to read up on them if you are not familiar with them and you are not sure which one to get for your setup.

Used Philips A1 PRO/27 DJ Headphones for $95

There is only one listing and only one unit available according to the shopping cart over there. The reviews are shared with another model, so the average does not necessary tell the whole story.
