Philips SHP-9500 Over-Ears for $70

The open-back over-ear Philips SHP-9500 managed to generate enough buzz of their own, on the wings of the Fidelio X1/X2 success perhaps and they are getting harder to find under $100. As of the time of writing, seller “NuTrend” has them on sale for $70 with free shipping through the NewEgg website. The seller “NuTrend” averages 4 out of 5 based on 881 reviews. Caution however, there are a lot of unhappy 1-star reviews of the seller, so this perhaps is best for the more adventurous and risky shoppers… (the headphones themselves average 5 out of 5 based on 33 customer reviews)…

Philips X2 drips down to $289

I don’t know if Amazon has some kind of an exclusive on this, because I can’t find it at other major online dealers. Regardless, the hype is still strong with the Phlips X2 because all the used options got scooped up at Amazon. However, there is a small ray of treble sunshine, in new condition, it dropped $11, you can get it for $289 (instead of $300), from Amazon by Amazon actual.

Used Philips SHB7150FB/27 for $41

There are multiple used listings of the Philips SHB7150FB/27 bluetooth headphones at Amazon Warehouse Deals in “Used – Very Good” condition. If the price is not right, you can also keep an eye on it – sometimes when the available used quantity is not moving fast enough for their pricing computers, their prices drop. But I have no idea how their computers decide how to do this, so this is very YMMV. They average 4 out of 5 based on 29 customer reviews.

July 12-18: 20% off entry-level Philips headphones

At Staples brick and mortar stores, for the week of July 12-18, they are having a 20% off sale on Philips headphones and earphones. They typically carry entry-level models, so don’t get too excited, there won’t be any X1 or X2. The price range shown in the Weekly Ad is for regular prices ranging from $10 to $50. So definitely not X1/X2. They probably have mostly earphones with occasional over/on-ear or bluetooth, but this may vary by store and region.

Crackpot Theory: Philips Fidelio X1 Lightning Deal on Wednesdays

This is only a crackpot theory, so do not make any life-altering decisions based on it. According to my research, the last few times the new condition Philips Fidelio X1 open-back over-ears were offered as surprise Lightning Deals at the Amazon Gold it was on Wednesdays, at some point in the middle of the day. So Wednesday appears to be the magic day of the week! However, it is NOT guaranteed to happen every week.

Two weeks ago it happened, but not last week. The last time I believe it got offered for $140, which was lower than previous lightning deals of $170+. This does not appear in the schedule in the Amazon Gold Box ahead of time like many other lightning deals. It shows up when it goes live. The lightning deal price shows on the product page and the Gold Box. The sale price won’t appear if you do an Amazon search – you’d have to click through to the product page.

The X1 was replaced by the Fidelio X2 which currently returned back up to $300~.

It promises up to 30 hours of ANC play but it can still play non-ANC music when it runs out of power. It has 40mm drivers, folds, and comes with travel case.

Massdrop: Philips Fidelio L1 for $110, ATH-Mx Velour for $22

More offers launched today at Massdrop, and as of the time of writing, two of them have reached the lowest price possible. The Philips Fidelio L1 semi-open headphones go for $100 plus $10 flat shipping, while Velour Earpads for the new ATH-Mx headphones from Sound Professionals are offered for $20 plus $2 flat shipping. Five color options are available at checkout and they fit the M50x, M40x, M30x, and M20x, along with the M50 (per the listing there).

Also launched there but not at their lowest price possible as of the time of writing are the Fostex TH500RP for $510, the Parrot Zik 2.0 as low as $328 headphones. On the in-ear front, the Beyerdynamic MXP 50 iE could go as low as $32~ shipped. Of potential interest, the red Focusrite 18i8 Interface could go as low as $305 shipped.

All the above end in about seven days from blog-posting date (not the date you are reading this).

PS: when looking at Philips headphones, beware of an “L” in their model name. It is an indicator of a Lightning connector (newer Apple devices). An example of a new Philips L-headphone, the Fidelio M2L (M2L/27).

Missed Op: Philips Fidelio X1 for $170

Earlier today, Amazon sneaked in the new condition open-back over-ear Philips Fidelio X1 as a lightning deal for $170. Unfortunately they do not include this in their Lightning Deals schedule, so the only way for me to catch it and post it on the site is to check at exactly the time it goes live. Since these deals typically last around four hours, it’s harder to find it and then be able to post it immediately (unfortunately they don’t have a WordPress Brain plug-in yet).

The good news is that this is a recurring deal, so it may return again in the future, and hopefully it may even be featured as one of the daily deals, which are a lot easier to catch since they last 24 hours.

Used Philips Fidelio X1 for $149

If you are trying to decide between the Philips Fidelio X1 and X2, and are leaning towards the X1, you might as well go the used route, as the price at Amazon Warehouse Deals is sliding further down now, available as of the time of writing for $149 in “Used – Good” condition, and $159~ in “Used – Very Good” condition.

Philips SHP9500 open-back headphones for $64

In a world full of sub-$100 closed-back headphones, open-back is not completely forgotten. Case in point, fully unlocked at Massdrop, with seven days to go (from blog-posting date) are the open-back over-ear Philips SHP9500 headphones going for $60 plus $4 flat shipping. I don’t know if it is a coincidence but it looks like a number of marketplace sellers at amazon.com have price matched it.

Also added (with also seven days to go), but not fully unlocked at Massdrop are the SoundMAGIC HP150 Headphones that could go as low as $150 shipped.

New at Massdrop: Fidelio L1, Titan 1, Cypher C6

Three new offers are up at Massdrop (members only). As of the time of writing, none of them are fully unlocked:

+ Philips Fidelio L1 as low as $115 shipped
+ Dunu Titan 1 IEMs as low as $98 shipped

+ expire in 5-7 days from blog-posting date

Used Philips Fidelio X2 for $240

The Philips Fidelio X2 has been steadily in-stock for a few weeks now, and that means some of them are making the rounds in the used market. With a new condition price of $300, as of the time of writing, there are multiple used listings at (and by) Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD). The “Good condition” goes for $240, the “Used – Very Good” for $255, and “Used – Like New” for $270. All these are by AWD actual, not marketplace sellers.

Even if $240 is not a good price for you now, with so many listings (there’s two pages of them!), it is possible (but not guaranteed by any means) that market-driven forces will drive the used prices further down.

PS: please note the prices are as of blog-posting time. Amazon Warehouse Deals prices change more often, and the prices in the blog-post cannot update on their own automatically.

Used Philips SHL-3000 headphones for $8

On the single figure (I think they are on-ear) front, the purple color scheme of the Philips SHL-3000 headphones is available in “Used – Like New” condition (original packaging) for around $8 by Amazon Warehouse Deals with the usual free shipping options (free 2-day Prime or with $35+ for non-Prime). These average 4 out of 5 based on 50+ customer reviews.

Philips X2 in-stock NOW (or USED for $270 now)

There is some movement on the Philips X2 availability front. There are multiple used units in-stock at Amazon Warehouse Deals with prices starting at $270 in “Used – Good” condition and going higher for better condition.

Great news for new condition as of 3/31/15, it is in-stock now, and ready to ship, at Amazon.com by Amazon actual at its regular price of $300. Limit five per buyer! Mayhaps they should have a lower limit so “resellers” don’t buy them and then sell them for crazy prices on eBay. This would give “real customers” a chance to buy them. And create more happy Amazon customers.

[DEAD] In-stock (USED condition): Philips X2 for $279

As of 3/24/15 at 2:30am ET, the used options by AWD are sold out again… If you are comfortable with used headphones and you can’t wait a few more weeks, the Philips X2 over-ear open-back headphones are available in “Used – Very Good” condition for $279 at Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD) by AWD actual. The new condition price is $300 with Amazon’s release estimate being “2-5 weeks”.
