Monoprice Bluetooth Over-Ears PID 13893 for $40 + S&H

Monoprice has a headphone sale, an actual sale, not a coupon, their Bluetooth Over-Ears PID 13893 are on sale for $40 plus shipping. The lowest priced Monosaver Shipping appears to be $3.49 for my three test zipcodes (East coast, West coast, in-between). If you purchase any other items that qualify for free shipping, then the shipping fee of this will be reduced or even become zero, depending on whatever factors their computer uses to determine this 🙂

By looking at the pictures above, their earpads remind me a bit of the earpads of the Sennheiser HD 4.20S which are very comfy.

Speaking of Monoprice, their buzz-generating M1060 planar magnetics, revision 2 as dubbed by the interwebs, continues to remain in-stock for $300.

They are close in price going for $180 at some of the membership clubs, BJs and Sam’s.

New Sony XB950B1 and XB950N1 drop $50

The Sony XB950B1 and XB950N1 headphones that were part of Sony’s announcements at CES 2017 have both dropped $50 today at various authorized Sony dealers. So with the discounting in place, the XB950N1 closed over-ears with ANC and bluetooth are going for $198 in green or black color schemes. On the other hand, if you prefer used, there is a “Used – Acceptable” option for $139~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.

Meanwhile the XB950B1 which has Bluetooth but no ANC is on sale for $148 with free shipping in black, blue or red. The lowest used price for this $111, so it’s much closer than the N1 above.

Both of these headphones support NFC and LDAC. LDAC is getting baked into Android “O” after Sony and The Google reached an agreement a few weeks ago.

PS: here is a visual explainer of LDAC at Sony Electronics.

Jaybird X3 Sport Bluetooth Earphones for $100

These average 3.8 out of 5 based on 530+ customer reviews, and have over 100 questions answered. They have a very low “review intensity ratio” (48 vs 18, less than 3:1), which suggest here are potential issues and trade-offs, so be sure to read up on them before buying.

But wait, there’s more! This is the fourth in a row Parrot post, so if you are trying to decide, check all four Parrot posts. It is the new condition first generation Parrot Zik headphone (BT and ANC) in the Yellow-Gold color-scheme, going for $100 with free shipping by a trio of marketplace sellers, with the orders of all three fulfilled by Amazon. All together they average 3.8 out of 5 based on 92 customer reviews over there.

Per the Amazon page, they are currently ranked as the best selling new “Audio Headphone”, but take those rankings with a grain of salt as they depend on the product categories being correct, and these days, with millions of products and marketplace sellers entering things, it’s chaos and disorder 🙂

Beats Solo 3 Bluetooth On-Ears for $160 [limit 3]

The Galaxy S8* smartphones are the first with Bluetooth 5, but as far as I know, no bluetooth 5.0 headphones yet, and since the Bluetooth connection works in a lower common denominator fashion, you’ll have to wait for compatible BT 5.0 headphones before you can take advantage of the BT 5 features of the Galaxy S8s.

Which brings us to Apple’s approach to bluetooth, their “Class 1” technology employed in some of their Fall 2016 products, headlined by the Beats Solo 3, the black color scheme of which, in new condition, is on sale for $160 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer. The “gloss white” is next in terms of discounting, going for $173~. All together, they average 4.5 out of 5 based on over 1000 customer reviews and have over 300 questions internet-answered.

Powerbeats 3 Wireless (BT) Earphones for $130

The black color scheme of the Powerbeats 3 Wireless (= bluetooth) earphones, geared towards sports/exercise, with their Class 1 bluetooth technology, ushered in with the Fall 2016 Apple line-up, are on sale, in new condition, for $130 with free shipping, at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three units per customer at this point in time.

All together (the different colors, which are the same product, no Rose Gold V-Moda apt-X shenanigans here) they average 3.6 out of 5 based on 1000+ customer reviews, but they only have a 2:1 “review intensity ratio” (5-star vs 1-star reviews), which is a sign of issues and trade-offs, so be sure to read reviews and such before buying if you are not familiar with them.

LG TONE PLATINUM HBS-1100 Neckband BT Earphones for $100

The new condition LG TONE PLATINUM HBS-1100 Neckband Earphones (bluetooth), in the gold or black color schemes, are currently going for $100 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of up to three per color per customer at the moment. Pioneer SE-MJ553BT-K On-Ears and Indigo head-amp and Slappa case for $70

It’s bundle up time now. You get three different products for $70. The new condition closed-back on-ear Pioneer SE-MJ553BT-K bluetooth headphones, the Indigo portable headphone-amp (which looks a lot like this M-Audio ~ they both for $30 on their own), the Slappa hardbody headphone case (goes for $20 on its own).

All these are by Beach Camera thru Amazon. It ships directly from Beach Camera (New Jersey) but if you are a Prime member, you get Prime-like shipping speed directly from Beach.

On the other hand, if you don’t want the portable headphone-amp, you can a different bundle for $10 more: it replaces the amp with an omega-shaped wood headphone stand.

PS: some of these bundles are value plays, you don’t necessarily have to (or you can’t) use all the items together, eg the portable head amp and a bluetooth-only headphone.

In-Stock Now: V-Moda Wireless II with apt-X for $350

The official V-Moda store at Amazon is offering the new apt-X model of their recently-revealed Crossfade Wireless II headphone, the Rose Gold color scheme for $350 with free shipping. Only the “Rose Gold” has apt-X. The other two colors do not, which is why they cost $30 less. This is fulfilled by Amazon, so Prime members get them in two days.

JBL Coach E40 BT On-Ears for $30

This is a NewEgg “daily” deal, so it is offered for two days. On Day #1 (Friday), promo code EMCSREBE2 gets you the new condition JBL Coach E40 Bluetooth On-Ears for $30 with free shipping. You may have to be a NewEgg email subscriber to use this coupon. On Day #2 (Saturday), it becomes one of the daily deals posted on their ShellShocker daily deals.

PS: I can’t see the benefit of this convoluted way of doing daily deals, but what do I know? 🙂

[DEAD] Beats Studio Wireless Over-Ears (BT and ANC) for $210

This daily deal expired…

PS: this market segment (over-ears with bluetooth and ANC) continues to increase in popularity (to the chagrin of some audiophiles) and it is heavily contested as a nice profit margin segment in the $200+ price range, with Bose, Sony, Sennheiser, V-Moda, B&W, B&O, and many more vying for earfection. Ear affection that is, although on re-reading this new made-up-word, it sounds more like an infection ~ which the dissenting audiophiles will agree with 🙂

Sony MDR-100ABN/B Closed Over-Ear (BT, ANC) for $180

The new condition Sony MDR-100ABN/B bluetooth and active noise cancelling closed-back over-ear headphones are participating in an “add to cart” sale by BuyDig on eBay for $180 with free shipping. To see the price, you have to be logged-on to your eBay account and press the appropriate button to show the price. This is the black color scheme.

Interestingly, the limit is 50 per customer, so the “Add to cart” is for the lower price it seems. I haven’t attempted to buy 50 of them to test this 🙂 Buydig is an authroized Sony USA dealer.

The 100ABN has been superseded in the Sony line-up with the new MDR-1000X which go for $350 on sale, and according to some, they are neck and neck with the Bose QC35 in terms of ANC effectiveness.

If you don’t need ANC, the non-ANC version, check the post above this!

Photive HF1 Bluetooth On-Ears for $30

The black color scheme of the new condition Photive HF1 Bluetooth On-Ears is on sale for $30 by a marketplace seller with the order fulfilled by Amazon (Prime eligible). This is not a lightning deal. They average 4.1 out of 5 based on 270+ customer reviews. This is another one of the popular budget bluetooth over/on-ear headphones making the rounds there.

Pendulumic Stance S1+ over-ear bluetooth for $188

A quartet of fulfilled by Amazon sellers are offering the new condition Pendulumic Stance S1+ over-ear bluetooth headphones for $189 with free shipping through amazon.com. These “defeat” the “First from Asia” featured offer at NewEgg for $199. Or if you are comfortable with used, one of those four sellers are shipping them directly (not Prime eligible) in “Used – Like New” (open-box) condition for $129 plus $6~ shipping through Warehouse Deals.

On rather unique feature of these is that they have two power options. They have a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion but they can also take AAA batteries. So if you are trying to decide between those two power camps, you have both options here. They average 3.8 out of 5 based on 50 customer reviews and have 18 answered questions.

Powerbeats3 Bluetooth earphones for $145

You may get kicked out of your local audiophile club if you are caught wearing these, but it’s your ears and your music 🙂 The new condition Powerbeats3 bluetooth earphones are on sale for $145 in the black color scheme and $150 in the other four color schemes at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of three units per color per customer. There, they average 3.7 out of 5 based on 900+ customer reviews, with a 2:1 review-intensity ratio which is pretty low.

PS: what I call “review intensity ratio” is the number of 5-stars divided by 1-star reviews. A “10:1” or better is ideal (other things equal since customer reviews are not uniform and reviewers rate things and brands differently for different reasons).
