Philips SHB5850 bluetooth in-ears for $13 w/free S&H
More action at eBay, where seller Big Deals (98.9%) is offering “New-Other” condition Philips SHB5850 bluetooth in-ears for $13 with free shipping in either black or white. Over 800 units got sold so far from this listing. Limit up to fifty per customer. They have 3-button remote/mic. You get an additional 5% off if you buy three or more of these or other participating items from this seller (the promotion is mentioned prominently on the eBay listing over there).
PS: there is no explanation of the “New Other” condition. Often this is either non-retail packaging or in-between situations where they can’t be sold as brand new.
Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 ANC earphones for $34
On the budget ANC earphones front, the Buydig store on eBay is offering new condition Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 QuietPoint Earphones for $34 with free shipping. These have active noise cancelling, with the ANC technology on a blocky rectangle on the cable. These are older models, I remember them from before I developed a “headphone problem” 🙂
Used Fiio EX-1 in-ears for $49
If you are not a risk-averse shopper, the Fiio EX1 in-ears are available in “Used – Acceptable” condition for $48.99 by Amazon Warehouse Deals. That penny is important, because if you are not a Prime member, you need $49+ to get free shipping. Prime members get the usual free 2-day shipping. There are no further details on their condition, which increases the risk.
PS: of all the things I bought from Warehouse Deals, they are typically better than expected, but I only bought around ten audio items, so it’s not a scientific survey nor a guarantee for future purchases 🙂
Beats (late 2016 models) and Focal (pre 2016 models) sales continue
The sales continue (or have returned) for two of the late 2016 Beats headphones. The black and gloss-black color-schemes of the Beats Solo 3 On-Ears (with Bluetooth and Apple’s “magic”) go for $220, while the black color scheme of the PowerBeats3 earphones continues for $150.
Speaking of continuing sales, the Focal Classic closed over-ears continue at their new-normal price of $200, while their Sphear in-ears go for $80. Perhaps they are hoping that the buzz generated among audiophiles by the Elear and the Utopia will generate renewed interest in the rest of the Focal line-up.

Note that 1More revealed at CES that they are making a new quad-drive IEM. Not a lot of details are available on it yet. Speaking of which, progress continues in our CES 2017 tracking page. I added a “Highlights” section at the top so you can jump directly to the biggest announcements so far. More will be added later on Sunday. There’s also a longer segment trying to decipher the mystery that is the new Audio Technica DSR bluetooths with their digital-to-driver technology. Spoiler alert below:

Still Good: 1More Triple Driver In-Ears for $60 or $63 (Costco)
The new condition 1More Triple Driver In-Ears continue to be on sale for $60 for members (or $63 for non-members) at the Costco website. Free shipping. Limit five units per customer. Non-members can buy them but pay the usual 5% surcharge (= $63). The manufacturer discount that brings the price down to $60 expires 1/22/17.
Meanwhile for members-only, Costco is offering the Plantronics BackBeat Fit behind-neck exercise earphones for a discount. I am not a member, so I don’t know the actual price. Usually the price is hidden for members-only when it’s below MAP.
Despite the popularity of headphones, it is fascinating that Costco’s website only carries 12 models. It’s the Costco Way!
Hifiman RE-400i (iPhone remote) returns to $49

As usual, items purchased from AWD actual come with a 30-day return policy, but Amazon makes no claims of warranty coverage, so if you buy something from them, make sure you’ll have enough time to test it to your satisfaction during the first 30 days of purchase.
Heads Up: $100 Shure Lightning Cable DAC/amp coming for SE-series earphones
If you are making “buy” or “sell” or “trade” decisions on the Shure SE in-ear line, note that Shure has announced at CES 2017 that a $100 Lightning Cable (with an in-cable DAC/amp) is coming and will be compatible with their SE 215, 315, 425, 535, and 846 models. Details are thin at the moment but more will come out over time.
For some of the latest new headphones at CES 2017, check on-going CES 2017 round-up. I am actively trying not to make it as bloated as the IFA 2016 round-up 🙂
Pre-order new Audeze iSine 10 VR for $400
VR headsets don’t have to be over-ears, and planar magnetics don’t have to be over-ears either. This new model has a pre-order price of $400 and already pre-orders are accepted at authorized dealer adorama.com.

Refurbished Jaybird X2 for $70 [limit 3]

Sonic Electronix has a “Make Offer” option on some headphones
I don’t know if this is a new feature, or I just now noticed it, but Sonix Electronix has an option on some headphones (a subset of their inventory) where you can make an offer on a product by entering your preferred price in a box. Here’s a screenshot of how it looks when you press the yellow “Make Offer” button on one of the Westone IEMs:
Bose SoundSport Earphones for $65 (unauthorized) or $85 (authorized)
The buttonless charcoal color scheme of the Bose SoundSport earphones is on sale for $65 with free shipping by an unauthorized dealer with a very generic name “uShopMall” through NewEggFlash (NewEggFlash really needs to clarify their listings – you have to do detective work to find out who the seller is, eg add item to shopping cart, or look at the return policy).
If you don’t mind the extra risk, you get a bigger discount, but if you prefer to buy from authorized dealers, it goes for $85 with free shipping at B&H Photo and $90 with free shipping at Adorama.
Massdrop x HiFiMAN RE-00 In-Ears for $35

Sennheiser IE60 In-Ears for $153
