“Game(r)s without frontiers” if Peter Gabriel wrote the song today instead of back then. Which brings us to an Acer Computer and Gaming sale headlining the Amazon.com Gold Box deals of the day for Thursday 6/27/19.
Of headphone interest, they feature two Acer gaming headsets, the Nitro for $23 and the Predator Galea 300 for $45. Limit up to two per customer at the sale price. The sale also features a variety of computers (laptops, desktops and all-in-ones), computer-monitors and various PC-related accessories…
In other daily deal action, the flirting of Best Buy with Bang and Olufsen continues with the new condition B&O Play H9i headphone in the natural color scheme going for $350 with free shipping or free store pickup. This is a closed-back over-ear model with both bluetooth (4.2) and ANC and a promise of a 18-24 hour battery life (depending on ANC and/or bluetooth usage). It also comes with a free 3-month trial of TIDAL Hifi, the music streaming service tier that offers higher music quality than the typical streaming service (eg Spotify, Amazon Unlimited, Google Play Music, the 320 or less crowd).
Adventures in TIDAL
For now, per their FAQ TIDAL is including for free the “Masters” in the Hifi tier. As part of a partnership with MQA, Masters are music typically 96/24-bit (up to 1411 kbps) as opposed to the CD-quality of the Hifi tier that is 44/16-bit. Which is still better than the 320kbps or less you get from the “mere mortals” streaming services ^_^. [the big caveat here being that you have the equipment and ears and the musical appreciation to appreciate the increase in music file quality]
The Hifi tier is the $20/month plan that your 3-month free trial will convert to if not cancelled. TIDAL also offers the more conventional “mere mortal” plan for $10/month (the 320 kbps type of plan).
One thing that irritates me about promotional advertising of various services, like TIDAL is doing in this instance, they doesn’t prominently show the price and options front and center. You have to dig in to find them. For example, it doesn’t give you those details before it asks you for your email to start the free trial. From a consumer perspective, these should be mentioned upfront! Rant ends 🙂
