This offer is available to everyone, not just Prime members. At this point, one could buy them for accessories and experimentation and cannibalization. They come with two 6-inch cables (coiled and straight), a leatherette pouch, and a 1/4 to 1/8″ adapter. They average 3.5 out of 5 based on 68 customer reviews.
They were going for $26 when I posted the Latest Deals Summary last week.

While no one was watching, Pioneer launched a new headphone, blessed with both “PRO”, “DJ” and “Studio” marketing, it is the closed-back over-ear folding Pioneer DJ HRM-5. It goes for $100 in new condition but it is available in “Used – Very Good” condition for $75~ or “Used – Like New” for $79~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. There’s one listing for each condition mentioned above by AWD actual.
It has one customer review that has two sentences in it. So plan ahead before you read it 😉 It has detachable cables and detachable pads (since there is a listing for official replacement pads for it, model HC-EP0402).

It’s back on again at Massdrop, with five days to go from blog-posting date, the new condition semi-open AKG M220 (based on the good old K240) over-ears studio headphones are going for $50 with free shipping. These orders will be shipped by the vendor (not specified) and all sales are final as usual, so not a plus if you like to have return-flexibility. Orders will ship mid-to-late May 2017.
PS: Studio headphones has become more of a marketing term, but these are legit ~ considering the price 🙂
Samson SR850 Semi-Open Over-Ears for $30 w/free S&H
Another budget over-ear headphone is on sale, it is the semi-open Samson SR850 going for $30 with free shipping at NewEgg by NewEgg actual and likely priced-match by Amazon actual (ships in 1-2 months though), where they average 4.6 out of 5 based on 299 customer reviews.
I actually have these and a review is in the works [everything is in the works here], so far I only posted a useful (?) text and pictures unboxing. For the price, it’s certainly a value play, as long as you are fine with a non-detachable looooong cable without mic/remote. They are open enough that in a quiet room you can use them as temporary computer speakers if you hang them near ear level or angle, and increase the volume level.

On the budget studio-ish (closed over-ear) headphones front, the new condition Tascam TH-200x are on sale for $30 at Musician’s Friend with free shipping until 8am ET on Wednesday as one of their daily deals.
PS: this is not their best price ever, according to the blog archives, they were offered for $19 by both MF and Guitar Center in November 2016.
PS2: their style looks familiar, there are other brands that have common ancestry or more, eg CAD-branded headphones but I can’t tell which model matches with which.

AKG K553 PRO Closed Over-Ear for $120 [MD]
It’s back on again, the closed over-ear AKG K553 Pro is unlocked at Massdrop (MD) for $120 with free shipping. This runs for the next seven days (the offer, not the headphone!), with a 2-year warranty from Samsung AKG. They are estimated to ship (from MD, not a vendor) in early March 2017.
Fostex TX-1 Closed Over-Ears for $20 w/free S&H
Fostex too has headphones all over the price range. On the budget side of things, their TX-1 closed-back over-ears go for $20 with free shipping by the Musician’s Friend (MF) group of companies including MF directly and Music 123 thru Amazon (not Prime eligible) and by MF through eBay.
Speaking of them, the CAD MH-310 which looks very similar (but not identical) to a certain Superlux/Samson headphone (I think the SR-950) is on sale for $30 with free shipping by Musician’s Friend and free store pickup by Guitar Center. But if you don’t have coupons or store credit or gift cards there, the Samson SR-950 goes for $24 with free S&H at Adorama.
Both are budget studio headphones, so it is reasonable to assume trade-offs versus well-regarded $100+ studio headphones. Although I suppose a more accurate term would be “studio-useful headphones” versus “studio” which is as much marketing as it describes function 🙂

Their most famous cousins, the SR850, are the semi-open. The SR950 are closed, which goes counter to Beyerdynamic’s DT 7-8-9 openness progression 🙂

They come in a very spartan packaging, cardboard and the headphones, no cases or other bonus items. I bought them during a previous sale for review/comparison but haven’t yet gotten around to using them. Here’s a quick shot as they wait their turn in the box:

It is back on again, with six days to go from blog-posting date, it is the new condition closed-back over-ear AKG K553 Pro offered for the very reasonable price of $120 with free shipping, with a 2-year AKG warranty at members-only but free to join Massdrop. This is not an exclusive model, but MD is one of the places that has it at this price. The shipping estimate is reasonable too, late November 2016, but keep in mind, things can slow down shipping-wise during the Thanksgiving week, a combo of the holiday and the Black Friday madness.
