PSA: You can now pay Google Play Music Subscription Monthly Fees with Google Play Balance

If you are a Google Play All Access Music service monthly subscriber, there is some good news! You can now use your Google Play account balance to pay for the subscription, you don’t have to use a credit card. I just noticed this today while I was shuffling through the settings in the Android app. I switched it there, and also double-checked with a Web Browser on a computer and indeed the option is there as well!

Here’s how it looks on the computer Web Browser (it’s a very tight screenshot because I don’t want to include the credit card numbers):

This is how it looks on the Android app, again a very close screenshot to prevent credit card numbers from getting posted:

I already paid for the June subscription, so I’ll see what actually happens next month when it bills my next monthly subscription. I am assuming if there isn’t enough balance, it will switch to the default credit card.

NOTE: this only applies to the All Access music service. Other Google Play subscriptions don’t have this option.

But WAIT, there’s MORE!
So what makes this a deal is this: you can get a further discount on your monthly fee if you are able to purchase Google Play Gift Cards at a discount. These are offered every few weeks with a promotion at Rite Aid brick and mortar stores using the Plenti rewards program. You pay full price but you receive 20% back in Plenti points which you can use at Rite Aid or at Exxon-Mobil gas stations or at Macy’s or other places.

So by strategically buying these gift cards, you would essentially be getting a discount on the subscription or the discount may encourage you to start a new Google Play All Access subscription 🙂

Since this is now “on topic”, I will be posting any Google Play gift card deals I find. They are rare, unlike iTunes that’s almost always discounted somewhere.
