The September 7 Apple announcement is an important moment in the headphone market. As the rumors suggested, they dropped the headphone port on the new iPhone 7* models in favor of the Lightning port connection, and introduced a new proprietary wireless non-Bluetooth (???) technology for the upcoming $159 AirPods. They also launched new “Beats 3” with Lightning and a new “budget” Beats X line.
