Dekoni Eartips for $12+, AKG Earpads for $35 [MD]

If you are a fan of Dekoni “ear-thingies”, you’ve found the right post. Two parallel offers are currently running at Massdrop as follows…

The Dekoni Bulletz Ear Tips are offered for $12 in a multi-pack that contains three pairs, one in each size. You have options in the shopping cart for size (3mm or 4.9mm) and for +$3 you can get the “truly wireless” and for +$2 you can select single-size packs.

It’s easier when you play with the options in their shopping cart than describe it here in words :)… You can buy up to ten pairs and they come with free US shipping… They ship in mid-May 2020… As of the time of writing, they average 4.3 out of 5 based on 200 customer reviews…

AND now to the earpads. If have AKG headphones (and anything compatible/similar), they are offering the new condition Premium Earpads for AKG for $35 with free US shipping. Additionally, you have three options in the shopping cart that cost more for different material (sheepskin, hybrid, fenestrated).

They average 4.6 out of 5 based on 69 customer reviews as of the time of writing. The listed compatibility is the AKG K7XX, and select K6-series and K7-series models, along with their equivalent Q-series models. For more compatibility, check the reviews, comments and of course your favorite head-audio forums…

Sennheiser HD 58X Open Over-Ears drop to $150 [MD]

IF you are 50-50 on whether to get the new Sennheiser HD 58X open-back over-ear headphones, there’s a small discount on them now at the Massdrop website tilting the scales to 52-48 🙂 You can get it for $150 with free US shipping and free US returns.

It comes with a 2-year warranty and it is an in-stock drop, which means it will ship within a couple of business days after purchase. You don’t have to wait for weeks and weeks for the order to ship. Of course given today’s #CoronaCrisis2020, actual delivery may take longer than pre-Corona…

Being a “modern incarnation”, it has a detachable cable, and it is individually serialized. It is made in Romania.

At checkout, you have optional options [LOL] for a combined purchase discount:

  • Drop TRRS Balanced 2.5mm cable for +$45
  • 3-year Drop warranty with Accidental Coverage (US market only) for +$20
  • the Earpads and Objective 2 headphone-amp options are currently NOT available
  • in the US, you can upgrade to faster shipping for +$5, or Overnight for +$15

They come with a 2-year warranty and being an “in-stock drop”, it ships within a couple of business days after purchase. It’s not one of those long-shipping offers…

Optionally in the shopping cart you can buy it together Drop + THX AAAâ„¢ 789 Linear Amplifier for a $25 off combined purchase discount, making the THX a +$375 on your order total (instead of +$400 if purchased separately)…

Sennheiser PC-37X gaming headset down to $100

If you are a fan of gaming and Sennheiser and Massdrop too, there is a sale on the new condition Sennheiser PC-37X gaming headset for $100 with free US shipping and free US returns. And it comes with a 2-year warranty. If you want more, you can optionally purchase an extended 3-year warranty for +$15.

Good news, this is an “in-stock drop”, so it will ship a couple of business days after purchase. It is not the “classic” Massdrop drop…

PSB M4U 2 Closed Over-Ear ANC headphones for $80 [MD]

IF you want name-brand noise-cancelling headphones that take AAA batteries (instead of having a built-in rechargeable LiIon battery), then you are in luck because for the next five days and change (from blog-posting time here) Massdrop is offering the new condition PSB M4U 2 noise-cancellers (closed-back, over-ear) for $80 with free US shipping. They will ship in late April 2020 from Massdrop…

They have a generous accessories package given the price, an extra set of earpads, two cables, semi-hard case, and a few small things (two AAA batteries, cleaning cloth, carabiner, 1/8 to 1/4 adapter, airline adapter).

NOTE: these are ANC-only, no wireless/bluetooth!

PS: now just because they take AAA batteries, it doesn’t mean you have to use disposable batteries. You can also use rechargeable AAA batteries and depending on your usage patterns you can buy the low self discharge kind (last longer if left unused but not as high mAh) or the regular (higher mAh but deplete faster if left unused)…

SendyAudio Planar Magnetics for $479 [MD]

New arrival at Massdrop, it’s another planar magnetic headphone with zebra wood housing, tempting both the planar fanclub and the wood fanclub 😉 This new arrival is the new condition SendyAudio AVIA going for $479 with free US shipping.

There is no mention of warranty in the listing. They will ship in late April 2020. Various options are available in the shopping cart for cables and adapters, the options ranging from +$25 to +$199. There’s also an option for a stylish stand (the last picture in the product gallery, picture #15, just press LEFT on the default picture instead of going through all 15 of them) for +$60…

NOTE: as of the time of writing of this blog-post, three more purchases are NEEDED before this offering “unlocks”. There are more than five days left for this to happen…

Massdrop Warehouse Sale includes BGVP DM6 IEMs for $150, MiniMic for $12 [also: $25 off $200+ orders]

Remember you can get to $200+ with multiple units of the same item, you don’t have to buy one of each item…

Etymotic ER4 IEMs for $250 (SR or XR) [MD]

IF you are fond of the Etymotic ER4-SR or ER4-XR in-ears with those Etymotic customary multi-flanges, they are currently on offer for the next two days and change [from blog-posting time] at the Massdrop website for $250 with free US shipping per pair.

It has two inputs as well, RCA and 3.5mm, and an RCA pre-amp output as well.

There is no mention of warranty in the listing. Orders will ship in late April 2020…

Koss KSC-75X Open Clip-Ons for $20 [MD]

Quite possible one of the best bang for the buck headphones out there and now it comes with a mic/remote combination thanks to the Massdrop KSC-75X edition. And this goes for just $20 with free US shipping and returns, and a lifetime KOSS warrant to boot! And you can change the earpads.

In case you are not familiar, these are open clip-ons, and among other things they are a lightweight alternative to over-ear headphones for long listening sessions for various reasons (heat, eyeglasses, discomfort, skull pressure, hairstyles, toothaches, headaches, etc, etc).

I have the original KSC-75 that I “rescued” from the clearance bin of an office supply store a few years ago, and have a text & pictures unboxing of them. I do not yet have the KSC-75X but I will be placing an order of this mic/remote version.

Hifiman HE-4XX Planar Open Over-Ears for $145 [MD]

IF you are planar curious but don’t want to break the bank, Massdrop is offering the new condition Hifiman HE-4XX open over-ears for $145 with free US shipping and free US returns with a 1-year manufacturer warranty [since this product is in partnership with Hifiman).

This is an in-stock drop, so it will ship in about a business day after your purchase. Your credit card will be charged about two hours after your purchase.

A 3-year “Warranty and Accidental Coverage” is offered for an additional +$20 for US addresses. Given Hifiman’s reliability woes, this may not be a bad idea. Check the MD comments and your favorite audiophool audiophile forums for more on this…

RadSone Earstudio ES100 Mark II for $85 [MD]

IF you are looking for a DAC/amp that resembles a Sandisk Clip rather than the traditional powerbank-thick portable DAC/amps, Massdrop is running an offering on the new condition RadSone EarStudio ES100 Mark II for $85 with free US shipping. This will ship in late April 2020. There’s no mention of warranty in the listing.

Optionally, you can buy it together (via their shopping cart) with the HE100 in-ears for $40 more, making it a $125 total. The HE100 are NOT included standard. Their specs are at the bottom of the Massdrop product page for reference only. You have to buy them for +$40 if you want them.

On the other hand, if you don’t want to wait until the end of April 2020, there are many options available at Amazon as follows:

  • new condition Mark II for $100, USED for $87
  • “Amazon Renewed” Mark II for $80
  • new condition Mark I for $90
  • “Amazon Renewed” Mark I for $70

What is Amazon Renewed?
It’s an Amazon program that encourages sellers to offer high(er) quality and tested non-new products with a minimum 90-day warranty. These can be refurbished, open box or used. What matters is their quality and warranty. To get a better feel for it, these are the requirements for sellers wanting to offer “Amazon Renewed” products…

FREE NuForce Stride bluetooth earphones with Sennheiser HD6XX purchase for $195

For a limited time only (expiration date is not mention), you will automatically [no coupon needed, no additional action on your behalf] receive a FREE NuForce Stride bluetooth earphone with the purchase of the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones for $195 with free US shipping and free US returns from the Massdrop website. This is an “in-stock drop” so it will ship in one business day after purchase, it won’t take weeks and weeks like the traditional Massdrop offerings…

To ensure the offer is running, use your browser’s in-page search feature (eg CTRL F in Chrome) looking for “NuForce” or “Stride”. You will see this promotion mentioned multiple times in the listing. Even though it does not appear “above the fold” (on the part of the page that fills up some screens, eg laptops).

The HD 6XX come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty since they are produced in co-operation with Hennheiser 🙂 The NuForce kit includes a hard case and six sets of eartips and a microUSB cable. No mention of warranty on the NuForce.

When you click the “BUY” button that takes you to the shopping cart, you will not see the NuForce mentioned there. The options you see in the shopping cart are for additional optional purchases (extra earpads, cables, DAC/amp, warranty) and a shipping upgrade option. Most of the optional items are offered with an additional combined purchase discount, eg the Drop+ THX AAA 789 linear amplifier is +$300 instead of $400 which sells on its own.

NOTE that this is the recently revised HD 6XX. Check the Massdrop and the interwebs for more details if you are not already familiar with the revisions…

Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO for $145 (choice of 32/80/250)

If you want to score one of the frequently-discussed affordable closed-back over-ear headphones and you don’t want to compromise on which ohm-age to get based on a random sale, $145 will get you the new condition Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO at the Massdrop website.

You have a choice of 32 or 80 or 250 ohm. They have 3 meter glued-on cables. The 250 has a coiled cable while the other two are straight. The accessories package is spartan, a drawstring bag (the plus with these is that you can use them for many other headphones as well ~ unlike custom-fit cases that are limited to other use) and the almost always obligatory adapter (in this case a 1/8″ to 1/4″).

These will ship in late February from Massdrop. No mention of warranty in the listing.

Ultimate Ears PRO Universal IEMs for $720 to $1795

We forgot about Dre, and we forgot about MassDROP! Running for the next one day and change, they are offering the new condition universal Ultimate Ears PRO IEMs line-up with free US shipping and returns. A total of five models are available with prices ranging from $720 to $1795 plus you have the option to get Specialty Faceplates (which range from $100 to $200) for free ~ or you can get the standard solid or translucent. Your choice!

The five options are:

  • UE 7 PRO for $720
  • UE Reference Remasters for $795
  • UE 11 PRO for $920
  • UE 18+ PRO for $1120
  • UE Live for $1795

They come with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Orders will get shipped from Massdrop in early March 2020, so not that bad of a wait (considering some of the other wait times). But definitely not for the “Prime Impatient” (TM)…

PS: Ultimate Ears are owned by Logitech, which is building up its audio-related portfolio, they even scooped up Blue Mic

1More Triple Driver Over Ears for $125

If you are curious about 1More’s Triple Driver closed-back [the “open look” is just a style choice] over-ear headphones, you can score them for $124 with free US shipping at the members-only but free-to-join Massdrop website

These ship at the end of the month by Massdrop. There is no mention of warranty in the listing. A carrying case is included with the headphones folded a certain way. Detachable cable with dynamic drives…

Sennheiser HD 6XX drops to $195 [MD]

While price-checking around for the HD600 lightning deal (Friday 1/31/20 at 8:24pm ET), I noticed a limited time discount on the new condition open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD 6XX, currently going for $195 with free US shipping and returns at the Massdrop website. This is a big seller, it is a few thousand sales short of hitting the 100,000 units mark!

So now you have two options to consider, depending on whether the HD600 lightning deal price is competitive or not. Plenty has been written about all these headphones (600, 650, 6XX), and if you are reading this as of the time of writing, you have plenty of time to read through the various opinions, forums, blogs, etc…

Massdrop “Audio Week” with 13 discounted headphone-related products

Massdrop is currently running an Audio Week sale promotion featuring 13 of their headphone-related “X” co-branded products on sale for a limited time:

All the headphones below are “Massdrop X” co-branded. To make the list more readable and less repeating, I am not including the “Massdrop X” in every single name below:

+ Hifiman HE-4XX planars for $130 (or $160 with EU shipment)
+ Meze 99 Noir closed over-ears for $180
+ Sennheiser PC-37X gaming headset for $100 (or $140 with EU shipment)
+ the aforementioned Focal Elex for $600 and Beyerdynamic DT-177X for $380

+ MEE Audio Planamic IEMs for $100
+ Noble Kaiser 10 Universal IEMs for $700 (or $900 with EU shipment)

+ Liquid Carbon X + SDAC dac/amp for $250 (or $350 with EU shipment)

The “EU shipment” mentioned above is relatively new experimental feature at Massdrop, what they call the EU Collection, products that ship directly from within the EU and include VAT, customs, and shipping. So while higher than the USA price, the EU price includes VAT and customs and shipping and they ship faster because they don’t have the transatlantic trip… This is explained in their earlier announcement

PS: the price is still listed in USD because that’s how the Massdrop website is setup.

Beyerdynamic DT-177X Closed Over-Ears down to $380

The discounting party continues at Massdrop where they have put on sale for a limited time the new condition closed-back over-ear Beyerdynamic DT-177X going for $380 with free US shipping. This is an in-stock drop so it will ship quickly (there is an estimate of one business day after purchase).

This is a “Massdrop X” product, as the “X” in the name suggests, a co-operation between Beyerdynamic and Massdrop, however, there is no mention of a warranty in the listing. Typically “X” products come with a warranty since they are made in co-operation with the manufacturer. There is a new forum discussion on this very topic but nothing conclusive is posted there…

PS: as a refresher for those not familiar, the 7s are closed-back, the 8s are semi-open and the 9s are open in the DT-??? and DT-1??? lines of studio headphones…

Massdrop Bounty Box II is back but no Audiophile-only option (for $250)

If you like to get semi-surprised by boxes you receive in the mail, Massdrop has brought back their Bounty Box II. You pay $250 with free US shipping and for that you are guaranteed to receive five items. The five items will be randomly selected from different groupings.

In this iteration of the Bounty Box, the boxes are prepackaged and you cannot select the product category. So you may receive items from audiophile (the headphones) and mechanical keyboardalia and EDC/blades. You have no control of what you receive.

In this post we’ll obviously focus on the Audiophile option but you cannot specify that you want audiophile-only products! If you are not interested in mechanical keyboards and EDC/knives as well, don’t order from this iteration!

Of the five items you receive, you MAY [randomly selected] to receive one from the most prized grouping, the “Rare” items.
+ Sennheiser HD 6XX open over-ears
+ AKG K7XX open over-ears
+ Hifiman HE-4XX planars
+ and one IEM, Noble X universal

Next up you MAY randomly receive two from this grouping:
+ Tin Audio T3 in-ears
+ Acoustic Research AR-E10 in-ears
+ NuForce EDC in-ears
+ NuForce Stride bluetooth in-ears

Lastly, two MAY come [randomly selected] from the group called “Common”:
+ Koss KPH-30i lightweight on-ears
+ Koss Porta PRO old-school lightweight on-ears
+ MEE Audio [does not specify model?]
+ RevoNext QT5 IEMs

“MAY” come because there’s no guarantee you will receive items from the Audiophile category!

To throw a monkey wrench in the above selection process, a few boxes will be randomly selected to receive two RARE items instead of one [you still get a total of five items]. As you can see from the list, that’s very good.

But wait, there’s more. A few boxes may receive an item from the EPIC category that has the Mr Speakers Ether CX and the Empire Ears Zeus universal iems.

These are an in-stock drop, so they will ship right away. No long waits. Returns are accepted but there is a restocking fee ~ check their terms and conditions…

NOTE that the reviews at the Massdrop website are for all variants of the Bounty Boxes and may not apply to this particular box… Check the “Discussions” tab instead where the most recent posts are on this latest “Bounty Box”.

NOTE #2: because these boxes contain knives, they cannot be shipped internationally, so this is a US only offering…

FOCAL ELEX open over-ears drops to $600 [MD]

In addition to the “in-stock drops” (aka conventional online retail) Massdrop has also “discovered” discounting! As of the time of writing, the new condition FOCAL ELEX open-backs, part of the X line of co-branded Massdrop products, are down to $600 with free US shipping. Props to Massdrop for keeping prices round, eg $600, not doing the silly $599.99 that many retailers do.

This is indeed an in-stock drop, so it will ship within one business day after purchase. No long waits. Since it is an “X” product, made and sold in co-operation with the manufacturer, it comes with a 2-year FOCAL warranty. It is handmade in Fwance per the listing…

PS: yes, I am aware Massdrop has been renamed to “Drop”, but “Drop”, although a shorter one-word name that is desirable among the e-commerce world, it just doesn’t not have the uniqueness and personality of “Massdrop”. It can also confuse some as “Dropbox” is a lot more well-known than “Drop”. But then again, they can mayhaps find a theme song in the Cocteau Twins mesmerizing Pearly Dew Drops drops 😉

KOSS w/free US shipping: Porta Pro X On-Ears for $25, KSC-75X clip-ons for $17

For those not familiar, Massdrop has something they call “in-stock drops”. This is what normal-model retailers (eg Amazon, Best Buy, Target, etc) call in-stock and ready to ship. The items are in-stock at Massdrop and ship within one business day after you order them. You don’t have to wait for weeks and weeks for shipment…

And if you are a fan of the Koss way of things but also want to have the modern luxury of a mic/remote, the Koss x Massdrop partnership [yes, you can find fanfics about those two] has two of the very classic Koss models with a single remote and microphone on the cable offered as in-stock drop with free USA shipping and returns and the usual Koss lifetime warranty.

The two models are the open-back lightweight on-ears, yes, you guessed it, the PORTA PRO X going for just $25 in the classic black color scheme. The other one is the (semi)-open-back clip-ons KSC-75X going for $17 with a single button remote with mic on the cable as well.

I’ll leave the debate on how to classify clip-ons to y’all as they are a bit on-ear and a bit earphone 🙂

A lot has been written about these two headphones, and given the prices and free US shipping and returns they are among the best bang for the buck options out there ~ especially if you want a mic/remote combo. After all, even dedicated DAPs make use of the in-line remote controls these days ~ even my good old Fiio X1 DAP does dat [read the last three words faster and faster]…

I don’t [yet] have these Koss X models, but I’ve had the good old KSC-75 clip-ons for a while know ~ I “rescued” them from the clearance bin of an office supply chain store!

KZ ZS10 PrO IEMs for $40 to $43 [MD]

If you are ready to jump into the KZ budget hype train or if you want more for yourself or as gifts for others, for the next two days and change (as of the time of writing of this post), Massdrop is offering the new condition KZ ZS10 PRO in-ears for $40 with free US shipping. Shipment is estimated to be in early December 2019 so it should get to you on time for holiday gift-giving purposes [but always, regardless of the situation, have a Plan B to go to in case of unforeseen trouble]…

The $40 is without a mic/remote but if you wish a mic/remote, that model goes for $43 and it is available in three color options.

These will ship from Massdrop itself. There is no mention of a warranty in the listing…

Monday: Sennheiser HD 58X drops to $135

Sennheiser fans of the world, unite and take over! Massdrop has just launched a $25 off discount on the new condition HD 58X Jubilee open-back over-ear headphones, from its regular price of $160. It comes with free US shipping and free US returns. For international orders, shipping is discounted but extra and of course there are customs depending on your location.

NOTE that the discount expires on 11/4/19 at 11:59pm pacific time!

During the checkout process, there are options to optionally add earpads to your order and/or the Objective headphone amp. The earpads have a $5 off combined purchase discount while the Objective has a $15 off combined purchase discount. There’s also an option for a $20 3-year accidental coverage US-only warranty. See shopping cart for details 🙂

This is an in-stock drop, so you won’t be waiting for delivery!

IMR Zenith R1 In-Ears for $250 [five filters included]

IMR, not to be confused with Ymir from Attack on Titan is offering their R1 Zenith in-ears for a limited time for $275 with free US shipping at the Massdrop website [yes, they changed their name to the more generic “Drop” but I still prefer “Massdrop” ~ it has more personality].

These are great for tinkerers because you get five audio filters included and each one has a different sound signature. They are described with a sentence each over there under the “Filter Sounds” segment. Trigger warning: the word “lush” is used often 🙂

Also included are seven pairs of eartips, a hard case, two cables for the earphones and the obligatory [although not every single headphones includes it these days] 6.5mm adapters.

Orders will ship in early October 2019 from Massdrop. There’s no mention of warranty in the listing, so assume there is none.

Grab Bag Returns: MEE Audio bluetooth earphones for $25 each

If you like the semi-surprise of “grab bag” style offerings, Massdrop is back with another variant of their MEE Audio “blue box” offering running for the next four days and change (from the time of writing of this post).

You pay $25 (with free US shipping) and for that you are guaranteed to receive one (randomly chosen) earphone from this list:

  • MEE M6B (2019 model)
  • MEE M9B (2019 model)
  • MEE X6 (2018 model)
  • MEE X7 in red

As you may be able to tell from the model names, all four are necklace-style bluetooth earphones. The chances are evenly split in this grab bag, so there’s no statistical favorite. Limit up to ten “blue boxes” per customer.

Prizes “unlock” every few hundred units sold, and if you are one of the lucky few, you will receive the prizes (AKG K7XX, NuForce EDC) instead of the MEEs. Not sure what happens if you don’t want the price and instead you want the actual thing you paid for?

Per the Massdrop website, the selection happens in this fashion:

“Participants will have their order number swirled around in a random number generator that allocates IEMs accordingly”

Meze x Massdrop Noir 99 Closed Over-Ears for $200

Massdrop strikes again with another “X” offering. Good for the next twenty days (from blog posting time) they are offering the new condition Massdrop x Meze 99 Noir closed-back over-ear headphones for $200 with free US shipping. This being an “X” product, it comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. Orders will ship in late September 2019 from Massdrop.

The standard package includes a woven-nylon case and an extra set of earpads (the second set, the one not installed on the headphones, has additional damping foam over the driver).

I haven’t used or seen any Meze headphones, so I have nothing to do. But the internets have plenty to add, on the webs and in the forums and there are 115 customer reviews at Massdrop (4.5 out of 5, 83% recommend) and there’s a long discussion of it as well (750+ posts).

And now an “appetizer headphone”, for just $20, for the next six days and change [from blog-posting time] you can get the new condition lightweight Koss KHP30iw on-ears at the Massdrop website.

Despite the retro looks, this headphone has a mic/remote. It is available in two color schemes, with the beige (the one being featured in most of the product page) being the nicer ~ although that is subject to individual taste and opinion…

This being part of the Koss-Massdrop relationship, it comes with the customary Koss limited lifetime warranty. Orders will ship in late September 2019 from Massdrop.

Surprise Massdrop Combo: Sennheiser HD6XX _AND_ Sony WH-1000X M3 for $400 TOTAL

Well this is a surprise and a temptation that may be hard to resist for practical audiophiles. For $400 at the Massdrop website, you get two headphones, the audiophile-loved open-back over-ear Sennheiser HD-6XX, AND the utilitarian Sony WH-1000X M3 closed-back over-ear with bluetooth and ANC.

And better yet, both headphones come with a warranty. The HD-6XX comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty, and the Sony WH-1000X M3 comes with a 1-year Sony warranty per the listing over there.

This is a pre-order with two days left to purchase (as of the time of writing of this post). The orders will ship mid-September from Massdrop.

PS: if you only want one of the two, you can always gift or sell or trade the other one. Or you can send it to me LOL 🙂
