The price of the M-Audio Micro (USB DAC) has now dumbo dropped down to $31.50~ (was $34~, was $36~) with a limit of three per customer at Amazon by Amazon actual. It averages 4.6 out of 5 but only based on ten customer reviews. The other physical feature is a low/high gain switch. This is USB-powered, so no go for portable use (unless you have a portable power source).
NOTE: the choice of naming it “Micro” was rather unfortunate since it also has USB in its name, and could potentially create confusion. This has a standard USB input (like a good old USB flash drive), it does NOT have a “micro USB” input! I do not know if this would work on phones/tablets with microUSB to USB OTG cables/Y-cables.
