EU fans: Massdrop begins shipping audio gear from within the EU

Are you an audiophile in the EU and want to get some of the Massdrop exclusive headphones and DAC/amps but don’t want to pay so much more and wait longer? It looks like your prayers have been answered because Masdrop has just launched a European shipping test

For the purposes of this test, a group of audio gear has been pre-selected, dubbed the European Audiophile Collection. These are priced with VAT included in the price and shipping and handling included. And they will ship from a(n unspecified) European Massdrop warehouse with a five business day estimated delivery. Many orders are promised to arrive at your address of choice, without “post office pickup” needed.

Note however that as part of this experiment prices will still be charged in US dollars, not in Euros. This is only because of the experiment. If Massdrop decides to go through with this in the future, they will be billing in euros. This is strictly a technical billing system restriction at the moment.

So what’s included in the European Collection? Three headphones and two DAC/amps! They are:

  • x Hifiman HE-4XX planar over-ears for $210
  • x AKG K7XX open over-ears for $240
  • x Fostex TR-X00 Mahogany (newer model with detachable cables) for $510
  • MD O2 + SDAC dac/amp for $190
  • x Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid amp for $305

All these come with new and separate listings from the standard MD listing, so check the older listings for review and discussions ~ these are popular MD exclusives, so there’s plenty written about them.

Looking at older posts here at this blog, the prices are higher [as expected] than the standard US Massdrop listing. For example, the HE-4XX was $170, the AKG K7XX was $200, the Fostex TR-X00 Mahogany is $420, the O2 + SDAC went for $150, and the Cavalli for $250.

NOTE that I don’t know what happens with the warranty for the “Massdrop x” products…
