Used Schiit Valhalla 2 OTL headphone amp for $310+

The Schiit Valhalla 2 OTL headphone amp goes for $350 + S&H in new condition at Schiit’s website (or $389 w/Prime shipping at Amazon), but if you want to save some, you can get it for $300 plus mandatory shipping (on average $15~ for slowest shipping method depending on zipcode) in B-Stock condition at the Schiit website (select B-Stock under the “Finish” menu).

Shure HPAEC840 replacement earpads for $12 (pads for the SRH 840, fit other headphones as well)

We now have a Shure trilogy of posts, starting with the utilitarian, the Shure HPAEC840 replacement earpads are on sale, in new condition, for $12 per set, at Amazon by Amazon actual. These are made for the SRH840.

Check reviews and answered-questions to see what other headphones they fit. Pay attention however to look at reviews and answers pertaining to this particular model. A soccer team of earpads (eleven different models) are on the same product page and share the same reviews pool and answers, so make sure you are reading the entries for the correct model. This is a pre-filtered list of reviews for the HPAEC840 (about half of the 400+ reviews posted there).

In addition to these being a recommended upgrade for the SRH440, customers there are also liking them with the M50/M50x, Koss DJ100, ATH PRO 700 II, Fostex T?0RP, Sony V6/MDR-7506, etc. About 1/3rd of the reviews are about these pads on the Audio Technica M50/M50x/M* headphones 🙂 Keep in mind, these are user recommendations/reviews, there is always a YMMV component to this as reviews don’t always explain their personal preferences and pet peeves and sometimes they forget to mention any DIY work that may be needed.

This is not a lightning deal, so the sale continues until it stops. The limit is the usual up to 30 per order per customer.

PS: this next item is not on sale, but I’ve had it in bags and backpacks or storing headphones one way or another for 3.5 years and it still looks very solid (I need to post a review for it – eg do a headphone modeling/fitting session), it is the Shure HPACP1 Headphone Carrying Pouch (with drawstring) for $5. It won’t protect from impact, it’s just a pouch, but it will keep dust and scratches away. The logo is sinking in the material, so it’s not obnoxious.

Shure SRH Over-Ear Sale: 440 for $89, 840 for $179

In addition to their in-ears, Shure has also discounted some of the over-ear studio headphones, at participating authorized dealers, including:

  • SRH 440 for $89 (frequently found in $100 recommendation lists)
  • SRH 840 for $179
  • SRH 940 for $269 (look for Amazon as the seller)
  • not discounted: SRH 240A, 1440, 1540, 1840

As usual, you can find these for less in used or refurbished condition or from less than A-list sellers, so be sure to make a purchase depending on your risk matrix.

Shure In-Ears line-up on sale

Shure has initiated some sales of some of their in-ears at participating authorized dealers, including the following models:

MEE Audio IEMs Grab Bag for $9 shipped [MD]

While waiting and pondering whether to get the HD6xx next Tuesday, here’s a live offer at Massdrop, it is an MEE Audio (formerly MEE Electronics) grab bag, for $8 plus $1 flat shipping. You will randomly receive one pair out of four options with a $10 to $25 value. Limit two buys per member, with a total of 3000 units available. To further encourage shoppers, there are six milestone prizes that will get you a lot more expensive items instead of these earphones. The prizes include headphones and DAC/Amps, with prices ranging from $100 to $800. The offer is running for the next seven days (from blog-posting date) and will ship late November 2016.

Massdrop Bombshell: Sennheiser HD6xx for $200 starting on Tuesday

Massdrop dropped a bombshell today! They have their first Sennheiser exclusive deal, and it’s an audiophile level headphone, the HD 6xx, based on the current HD 650 with a detachable 6-foot cable. The drop will go live on November 8 at 9am eastern time. A total of 5000 units will be available, the first 500 of which will get sub-550 serial numbers. They are estimated to ship mid-December 2016. If interested, make sure all your account info at Massdrop is up to date (address, credit card, etc), so you can jump right in when it goes live on Tuesday 11/8/16. These are made in Ireland and come with a 2-year Sennheiser warranty.

massdrop_hd6xx

What does it say about HD 650 prices?
This also raises an interesting question, considering that the current new condition of the HD 650 is $300+. Does this price mean Sennheiser has flexibility in bigger price drops for the HD 650, or is the nature of the Massdrop offer such that allows them to offer it for less because they don’t have to deal with the traditional retailer infrastructure?

Used Grado SR80e On-Ears for $77

The open-back Grado SR80e are described by many as a good entry into the Grado line-up without risking too much money on them. They go for $100 in new condition at authorized dealers, but if you are comfortable with used, you can get them in “Used – Very Good” condition (cosmetic imperfection, damaged original pizza box) for $77~ by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual.

The open-back over-ear Shure SRH 1440 are available in “Used – Acceptable” condition with multiple cosmetic imperfections and in damaged original packaging for $185~ with free shipping by Amazon Warehouse Deals actual. Considering the rating and description, this is perhaps for higher-risk and/or less-perfectionist shoppers. The new condition price is $300.

PS: remember the even numbers of the 4-digit models are open-back (1440, 1840), while the odd numbers (1540) are closed.

Koss PortaPro On-Ears for $29

If you don’t want to wait for Holiday shopping season doorbusters (according to my records aka “order history”, this went for $20 in late 2014 during a lightning deal), the new condition Koss PortaPro retro-retro open-universe on-ear headphones go for $29 at Amazon by Amazon actual (limit 5; usual free S&H terms) and $30 with free shipping for all (not sold in stores) at the Target website.

At Amazon, these average 4.5 out of 5 based on 3170+ customer reviews and have 90 questions answered. I haven’t looked at the negative reviews, I’m assuming some of them didn’t read the “open back” part and are complaining about open-related issues when they needed closed headphones. But I’m digressing 🙂

1MORE iBFree Bluetooth Earphones for $50

The aqua-blue color-scheme of the 1MORE iBFree Bluetooth earphones (with earhooks) goes for $50~ with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual. It is temporarily out of stock, but you can place an order if you like this price. The other colors go for $59, while used prices for the other colors start at $43~.

Audio Technica M20X for $29 w/free S&H

The BuyDig website only (not their Beach Camera sister site) is having a limited-time flash sale on the new condition closed-back over-ear Audio Technica M20X for $29 with free shipping. This is the entry-point into the 20X to 70X line-up.

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 On-Ears (iOS, Brown) for $100 [limit 3]

Here we go, another Momentum 2.0 sale, this time it is the on-ear closed-back model, in the brown color-scheme with the iOS buttons, going for $100 with free shipping at Amazon by Amazon actual with a limit of three units per customer.

PS: the iOS/Galaxy/Android mentions are the button compatibility. The headphones themselves are the same. Since they have detachable cables, you can mix and match cables that fit.

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over-Ears (iOS/Black) with $17 Promo for $152 [Request Price song-and-dance]

You have to lift a finger or two to see the price, but the price is definitely right, the new condition closed-back over-ear Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 headphones, in the black color scheme with the iOS button set are on sale for $150 plus $2 flat shipping at NewEgg by NewEgg actual. You also get a $17 promotional NewEgg gift card with the purchase. Limit five per customer.

Here’s a screenshot of the shopping cart, it clearly shows the “Around Ear” aka “Over Ear” aka “Circumaural” (which may sound like a reproductive term to the uninitiated)

newegg_momentum2

To see the price, you have to click on the “Request Price” and receive the price either via email, via phone/text, or by scanning a QR code (screenshot of that below). If you have a QR code app on your phone, you don’t even need a data connection to read it, it works in Airplane mode as well:

newegg_momentum2_qr_scan

PS: if you are an Amazon fan, this has not been price-matched as of the time of writing, as you can see at the product page. Because of the way this deal is structured, the Amazon price-matching technology may not be able to notice it (or they won’t price-match it). I believe there was another crazy Momentum 2.0 sale a few weeks ago, maybe it was via price-match? It’s hard to tell with these things without a full-time internet CSI team 🙂
